Abstract
A heat conducting pad (2) may be integral with the heating element (1) of a cooker hob, or may be placed on top of the heating element. The pad may be of a high temperature polymer encasing a metal powder; or may be fabricated from woven metal wire or ceramic fibre; or may be a foil envelope filled with a thermally conductive powder. <IMAGE>
Description
Cooker Hob Top
This invention relates to a cooker hob top.
Cookers are well known domestic appliances, used for heating and cooking food. They comprise of pads or rings that heat up and onto which saucepans are placed. The main method of heat transfer between cooker hob and saucepan is by conduction.
The heat transfer between saucepan and cooker is very poor due to the irregularity of both surfaces resulting in a minimal contact area.
According to the present invention there is provided a compliant heat conducting pad on top of or integral with the cooker hob. The saucepan can therefore have a far more intimate contact with the cooker allowing better transfer of heat between the two. If the compliant heat conducting pad is separate from the cooker hob it can be used with existing cookers and increase their thermal efficiency.
Specific embodiments of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 shows a cross section of a hob top with integral compliant pad.
Figure 2 shows a cross section of a cooker hob with a separate compliant pad.
Figure 3 shows a cross section of a foil envelope containing a thermally conductive powder.
Referring to the drawing the hob top, as shown in figure 1, comprises a heating element 1 integral with a compliant conducting pad 2 with saucepan 3 resting on top.
The compliant pad 2 is made from a high temperature polymer with a metal powder loading to increase thermal conduction.
In an alternative embodiment of the invention, as shown in figure 2, the heat conducting pad 4 is fabricated from woven metal wire or ceramic fibre and rests on top of the heating element or hob 5.
In another embodiment of the invention the compliant conducting pad is a foil envelope 6 filled with a thermally conductive powder 7.
