Abstract

A wind or draught driven hazard or direction indicator includes two or more reflective or florescent blades (B) mounted on and rotatable about the axis of a post (D Fig 3). Speed governing is provided by winglets (A) on the blades providing lift which brings the braking system (E Fig 3) into operation. The post at its base would include an appropriate method of fixing the device to its intended sited position, eg. on a traffic cone. The braking system may be centrifugally operated. <IMAGE>

Description

A REVOLVING WIND OR DRAUGHT OPERATED HAZARD OR DIRECTION INDICATOR This invention rclatcs to hazard or direction indicators of the type mountcd on traffic concs or anavllere where there is a nced to indicate a hazard or direction.
The present type of hazard direction indicators (other than static types) are usually electric or batterv powered flashing lights, the problems associated with these types. types of indicators are, as follows: A. The initial high purchase cost.
B. Ongoing maintenance.
C. Recharging or replacement of batteries and bulbs.
According to the present invention there is provided a wind or draught operated revolving device in the torni of a single vane, or vanes, that may be covered with contrasting higllly reflective material on cither side, the device would be mounted on a bracket or by any other means according to the speclfic application requirement, the purchase cost would be low and no maintenance is required, and assembly is very simple. Speed governing and braking may be provided by way of winglets on the vane which provide lift and brings the splines on the spindle into contact with the floor of their housing creating braking by friction. Or the braking could be by a centrifugal device.
A spcclfic embodimcnt of the invention will now be described by way of example and with referciice ro the accompanying drawings in which.
FIG I -- Shows a three dimensional view of the device.
FIG 2 -- Shows a plan view of the device.
FIG 3 -- Shows a cut-away illustration of the speed governing and braking system.
Rcfcrrrng to the drawing fig I, the device consists of a single shaped vane (A) incorporating singlets (B) which provide lift in connection with the speed governing and braking system, the vane incorporates and revolves on a spindle (D) this spindle is sccurcd to a suitable bracket or by any other means according to the specific requirement.
fig 2 Shows a plan view of the device as described above.
fig 3 Shows a cut-away drawing of the typical means of assembly (F) and the speed governing and braking system, the spindle (D) incorporatcs flexible spindles at this base (E) the use of these spindles are two fold as follows: 1. Easy and permanent assembly of the two main components.
2. Forms part of the speed governing and braking system.

Claims (1)

  1. CLAIMS: Reference Patent Application G.B.9418554.3
    (1) A revolving wind or draught driven hazard or direction indicator, that includes two or more blades mounted on and rotatable about a post.
    (2) An indicator as claimed in claim 1 where the blades can be covered by or made from reflective or florescent material.
    (3) An indicator as claimed in claims 1 & where the blades radiate from and rotatable around the post itself or from a bearing which is rotatably carried on the post.
    (4) An indicator as claimed in claims 1.2. & 3 where each blade could incorporate a winglet to provide lift which forms part of the speed governing system.
    (5) An indicator as claimed in claims 1.2.3. & 4 where the blades at their central axis would include a conical housing with a floor which forms part of the speed governing system.
    (6) An indicator as claimed in claims 1 .2.3.4. & 5 where the post includes a conical section which on making contact with the blades conical housing floor provides rotational speed governing.
    (7) An indicator as claimed in any preceding claim would include an appropriate method of fixing the device to its intended sited position.
    (8) An indicator as claimed in any preceding claim which is made from metal, plastic material ,or wood,or from a combination of any of these.
    (9) An indicator substantially as herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
