Abstract

There is disclosed barbecue apparatus which comprises a fuel tray (2) mounted on sliding rails (3) such that the fuel tray can be moved independently of the grilling area (1). This movement enables the amount of heat supplied to the grill to be varied. The grill area can also be moved along a horizontal grill guide (5). The legs (2) of the fuel tray are arranged so as to keep the tray horizontal as it moves along the rails. <IMAGE>

Description

INFINITELY VARIABLE HEAT BARBECUE This invention relates to an infinitely variable heat barbecuing method henceforth referred to as I.V.H. Convection.
Barbecue apparatus are many and varied, used widely in outdoor activities relating to the grilling and consumption of food, picnics etc. Even the more expensive machines fall somewhat short of producing all that is required to obtain perfect results.
According to the present invention, there is provided in this specification a simple method by which all requirements are met by provision of a sliding area (3), twixt grill (1) and fuel container (2).
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the barbecue apparatus with grill area(l)and fuel tray(2)in the maximum heat position.
Figure 2 shows the minimum heat position between grill area (1 )and fuel tray(2;.
Figure 3 shows the infinite variety of heat related positions obtained by this method.
Figure 4 indicates the method by which these positions are obtained.
Figure 5 illustrates the versatility of this method twixt grill(l)and fuel tray (2 )which being quite independent of each other, prove invaluable where a more critical heat is required.
Figure 6 shows detail of raising lid.
Figure 7 shows method by which both fuel tray(2)and grill area(l) may be operated simultaneously if required by one single movement, achieved by twisting and connecting attachment(7)at the rear of fuel tray(2)to the vertical position, which then protrudes through the rear portion of the grill bars(l),thus making gill area(2)traverse in unison when operated by operating handle(4).
Figure 8 shows method of enclosing gill area(l)to contain heat therein, also to restrict the bellowing of smoke. However this being a folding action, a gap is formed when closed which allows surplus smoke etc to be emitted there from in a steady filtering action.
Figure 9 shows method by which the barbecue fuel tray (2) and grill area (1) are completely isolated from the outside covers by being so positioned, i.e. more than 2" from any outside sheeting, that anyone coming into contact with any part of the barbecue, especially unpredictable children, it is nigh impossible for them to be injured by burns etc.
Figure 10 shows method of limiting traversing movement in either direction by stops (8) at front and rear of sliding area (3) grill area slide (5).
Figure 11 shows safety detachable safety clips (9) in detail.
These clips (9) hold fuel tray (2) firmly on and in aligment on slide (3).
Referring to the drawings, this barbecue apparatus comprises two sloping runners (3) upon which a fuel tray (2) is positioned which is designed with short legs at the front of the tray (2) and longer ones at the back of the tray (2).
This compensates for the angle (3) when the tray (2) is traversed to the rear of the barbecue, thus maintaining a level which is parralel to the grill surface.
A continuous heat may be provided of varying degrees between the maximum and minimum settings. Provision is also available for any equation twist grill (1) and fuel tray (2). This method may also be used with any portable gas appliance in addition to solid fuels.
The operation procedure is as follows: The operating rod (4) is firmly attached over the front edge of grill (1) as illustrated in Figure 4, and the desired position attained. The operating rod (4) is then detached from grill (1) and then attached to the front edge of the fuel tray (2) and then the fuel tray (2) is slid into position directly underneath grill (1) or partially positioned according to the heat required thereto.
Alternatively both fuel tray (2) land grill area (1) may be operated as a single unit as explained in Figure 7.

Claims (8)

1. A portable barbecue comprising a structure which enables heat to be applied to the grill (1) in a variety of ways.
2. A portable barbecue as claimed in Claim 1 wherein sloping guide rails convey a heated fuel tray (2) continuously between two points.
3. A portable barbecue as claimed in Claim 1 and Claim 2 wherein a variety of heats may be applied to the grill (1) in an infinitely number of distances and positions twixt grill (1) and heated fuel tray (2).
4. A portable barbecue as described in Claims 1,2 or 3 wherein the rear legs (6) of the fuel tray (2) are so shaped as to prevent any unwarranted movement or slide of the heated fuel tray, once set in position.
5. A portable barbecue as described herein with reference to Figures 1 - 6 of the accompanying drawings.
6. A portable barbecue as claimed in Claim 1, Claim 2 and Claim 3 whereby operating the machine as in Claim 2 but with attachment (7) at rear of fuel tray (2) in vertical position and protruding through rear portion of grill area (1), a simultaneous movement of both grill area (1) and fuel tray (2) is obtained in one single operation of operating the handle (4).
7. A portable barbecue as claimed in Claim 1 to Claim 6 which is completely safe to operate. The whole inner barbecuing area being isolated from the outer coverings by careful positioning of slides (3) and (5).
8. A portable barbecue as described in Claims 1 to Claims 7 within a folding cover (8) which when closed leaves 1/8th gap in order to filter out any extraneous smoke etc.
