Abstract
Patterned coving units are made in convenient lengths, e.g. 32 cms, for fixing over existing coving or direct to a ceiling; jointing sections are provided to secrete joints; also internal and external corner blocks. They are made in mock wood from a composition of PVA glue, wood flour, optionally recycled paper, and a fire-retardant. <IMAGE>
Description
MOCKWOOD PATTERNED COVE TILES WITH OBSCURE JOINTS
Patterned cove has always been made in long lengths, the longer the better because the joints will show. Patterned cove tiles are different as they can be made in short lengths of 32 centimetres overall which is inclusive of the jointing section.
The patterned section will be hydraulically pressed during production giving it a smooth finish similar to plaster.
The patterned cove tile and jointing sections will be made from a material which has never been used before in the production of any type of coving. They will be made using a Mockwood mixture of P.V.A. Glue, Wood Flour and a Fire
Retardent all diluted in 95% Water. The slurried material in sucked onto a male mould and then transferred into an oven where the sections are dried and pressed for completion. All production is computer controlled and the whole operation is fully automatic making it very fast and low cost. It would also be possible to use reclaimed paper mixed with the Wood Flour which would also enable costs to be reduced further.
The system would have a worldwide copyright as this is the only way to join thin materials.
The Mockwood completed goods would be approximately 3mm thick and the jointing sections would be slightly raised forward of the patterned sections by 3mm to enable the joints to be obscure.
The sections can be cut using a fine toothed saw and fixed using an adhesive specially made to suit the system.
The Mockwood cove tiles can be used to by-pass existing coving opposed to a coving insert which is fixed to the cove.
There are machines throughout the World capable of producing the goods with fast production at low cost.
Fixing of the sections is easy. There are no fixing pins and no need to worry about the joints as they just butt up to each other and then are concealed by the jointing sections. The sections are of very light weight, will not fall down and can be easily fixed by any D.I.Y. person.
As these patterned coving tiles and jointing sections are a novel idea, attractive and easily fitted they should return a lot of money. Mixed jointing sections can be used making the coving more attractive as opposed to having the same repetitive coving all around the room.
Due to the quality of the goods and that they are produced using Mockwood, which is a novelty in itself, the goods will not be subject to damage during distribution and transportation. There are no other goods in this field that are as strong as Mockwood available on the market.
Mockwood is similar to medium density fibreboard used in the manufacture of furniture.
Due to the products light weight transportation costs will be low and because of the products strength damage will be minimal, savings can be passed on to the customer making this a viable prospect.
Referring to the enclosed diagrams Fig.6 shows a complete unit using one jointing section connecting the patterned sections. It can be seen that the joints are concealed and not visible to the eye.
All classic patterns can be used such as Egg Dart, Egg
Bell, Dentil etc can be produced giving a finish similar to that of plaster.
Please refer to the enclosed diagrams.
Fig.l:Patterned cove tile,32 cms in length inciusive of a jointing section.
Fig 2:Shows a jointing section which will be raised 3mm forward of the patterned section to enable joints to be hidden.
Fig 3:Shows an independent patterned cove tile section. This can be connected to any number of different patterned jointing sections. The same patterns can be used repeatedly or different patterns can be alternated.
Fig 4:Shows a small selection of jointing sections which will be raised 3mm forward of the patterned coving tile to hide joints.
Fig 5:Shows a cross section of a jointing section showing that it is forward of the coving tile.
Fig 6:Shows a split section of a coving tile and a jointing section.
Fig 7:Shows a coving tile by-passing existing coving.
Fig 8:Shows a combination of patterned coving tiles and a constant pattern of jointing sections which are to be raised 3mm forward of the coving tiles to conceal the joints.
Claim 9:This is abstract. The material for producing Mockwood which is novel in the prodution of coving is a composition of
P.V.A. Wood Glue,Wood Flour and a Fire Retardent all diluted in 95% Water,i.e.5% Materials and 95% Water making a slurry which is then used to produce Mockwood.
