Abstract

The chair has two parallel side frames 1, 2 about which the seat 3 and back 4 can pivot. The seat and back are of rigid material and hinged at 5, 6 along their centres. The chair folds and unfolds as shown in the figure. <IMAGE>

Description

FOLDING CHAIR This invention relates to a folding chair Folding chairs usually achieve their stability through some form of crossbracing. This 'X' frame gives these chairs a crude functlonal look which is not very elegant.
This folding chair elimlnates cross-bracing by achieving stability through a different principle.
The chair is composed of two parallel side frames, about which the seat and back elements can pivot. The seat and back are made of a strong rigid material and are hinged along the centre. When the side frames are pulled apart the seat and back fold flat.

Claims (3)

1. When the seat and back elements are folded flat they become aligned at right angles, so that the two planes stiffen one another through the side frames.
2. As in Claim 1, the weight of the seated person holds the chair in position.
3. As In Claim 1, the back element, when taken below the level of the seat acts as a rail and gives added rigidity to the side frames.
