Abstract

Alarms operated by expansion of solids; electric systems.-Means for indicating the temperature of the water in an automobile radiator and for actuating an alarm when a predetermined temperature is reached, comprises a heat-sensitive element in the form of a bimetallic strip adapted to operate a pointer and to complete the circuit of the electric horn at the predetermined temperature. The bimetallic strip 14 is secured at its lower end within a port 3 passing into the radiator, and at its upper end is connected by a link 15 to a hook 8 secured to a pointer 7 moving over a scale 6 within a casing 1. For operating the alarm, the strip 14 is adapted to make contact with an arm 16 mounted on an insulating strip 17 within the casing. A lead 18 secured to the arm 16 passes into an insulating ring 19 having a circular groove 21 adapted to receive a spring contact clip 23 to establish the circuit.
