Abstract

The pick up hitch 13, is secured to the tractor frame 10, by two links of unequal lengths 11, 12 in such a way that as the hitch is disengaged from the transport position it firstly extends to enable the operation to see the crook 14 and then lowers to the ground to enable the trailer ring hitch to be engaged, the action of lifting is the reverse procedure in that the crook lifts almost vertically to engage the ring hitch and then retracts and latches in the transport position. <IMAGE>

Description

The Lift and Retract Hitch Existing conventional automatic pick up hitches on tractors suffer from the following limitations; 1. Visibility is restricted when the hitch is lowered to engage in the ring hitch of the trailer.
2. The action of raising the crook to the ring hitch of the trailer causes rearward movement which requires the operator to estimate the correct position of the crook.
The Lift and Retract pick-up hitch achieves a unique action of extending, lifting and retraction by using a mechanical system of two radius links, each anchored at one end of the frame attached to the tractor. The locus of the path of the pick up hook used to engage the ring hitch on the trailer, is determined by varying the respective lengths and pivot points of these two links in order to suit the particular tractor, to which it is fitted.
Figure 1 shows a side elevation of the hitch in its raised and lowered positions with the loci generated by the tip of the hook while moving from its lowered to raised position.
Figure 2. Main components of the hitch Referring to the drawing, the hitch comprises of a main frame 10 attached to the tractor a front link or pair of links 11, a rear link or pair of links 12 and a lower frame 13 and hook 14.
The lower frame is attached to the main frame by means of the front and rear links. The lower frame is raised and lowered by means of the tractor lift arms and locked in the transport position by means of a latch.

Claims (6)

Claims
1. A tractor mounted pick up hitch comprising of a lower frame and hook assembly attached to the tractor by front and rear links.
As the hitch is lowered by means of the tractor hydraulics the hook extends rearwards so allowing greater visibility to the operator. On lifting the hitch it initially moves in a mainly vertical direction so allowing for accurate location with the trailer ring hitch.
2. The Lift and Retract hitch as claimed in claim 1 wherein the pick up hitch operation is carried out by mechanical linkage.
3. The Lift and Retract hitch as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 wherein produces a loci pattern of vertical Lift and Retraction.
4. The Lift and Retract hitch as claimed in claim 1 wherein the front link 11 could consist of 1 or 2 links.
5. The Lift and Retract hitch as claimed in claim 1 or claim 4 wherein the rear link 12 could consist of 1 or 2 links.
6. The Lift and Retract hitch substantially as described herein with reference to figure of the accompanying drawings.
