Abstract

228,950. Neil, R. J., and Furst, W. A. T. Nov. 13, 1923. Magazine hand cameras for roll films with connected action between shutter and changing- mechanism ; shutters.-A roll film camera provided with interconnected shutter-operating and Maltese Cross film-changing mechanisms, has an oscillating drum shutter 3, 3', Fig. 2, connected through gearing with a manually operable device 5, Fig. 1, on each actuation of which the filmchanging mechanism is actuated and the shutter is moved angularly to expose the film. As shown, the device consists of a plunger 5 engaging a spring-controlled crank-arm 4 having a oneway connection with the main driving spindle 1 of a Maltese Cross kinematograph film feeding device. The spindle 1 has gear connections with the Maltese Cross device 2 and with the shutter 3, 3<1>, motion of both of which is stopped on depression of the plunger 5 by the engagement of a cranked portion thereon with one of two projections 6<1> on the fly-wheel 6. The shutter 3, 3<1> is connected to the fly-wheel 6 by a crank 7, Fig. 4, and rod 8 connected eccentrically to a toothed sector 9 engaging with a pinion 10 connected to the shutter. For time exposures a spring-controlled stop 12 is brought by a hand-operated spring-controlled latch 14 into the path of a pin 13 on the arm 4 so that, when the plunger is depressed, the shutter is arrested in the open position, the latch 14 being simultaneously released. On further depression of the plunger 5, the stop 12 engages a slide 18 which is moved so that a projecting arm thereon engages with and holds the fly-wheel 6 until the plunger is released to terminate the exposure. The shutter is formed of two mutilated cylinders 3, 3<1> mutually adjustable by a spindle 11 to vary the aperture. Indications may be provided on the end of the rotatable inner drum 3<1> and adapted to be brought into register with an aperture in the body of the camera to indicate the speed for which the shutter is set. The film holder and carriers may be of the kind described in Specification 161,626, [Class 97 (i), Optical systems &c.].
