Description

COMPOUNDED ANTI-IMPACT FREE WHEEL SET OF BICYCLE The present invention relates generally to a free wheel set, and more particularly to a compounded free wheel set caPable of against an impact force.
The speed-changing device of a conventional bicycle is generally provided with a plurality of free wheels which are of various sizes and are mounted on the thread side of the rear hub in such a manner that each of the free wheels can be driven by the wheel chain of the bicycle. As shown in FIG.
1, a free wheel set 10 of the prior art is fastened directly to one end of a hub 11 such that the free wheel set 10 is mounted on an extension tube 13 coupled at one end of the hub 11. Thereafter, the rear fork tip 12 of the bicycle frame is fastened at both ends of the axle 14 of the hub. Such a free wheel set 10 as described above is defective in design in that the overall operating efficiency and precision of the free wheel set 10 can be undermined by the defect of any a piece of free wheel of the free wheel set 10, and that the axle 14 is vulnerable to a deformation caused by the severe vibration of the free wheel set 10 at such time when the free wheel set 10 is driven strenuously by the wheel chain. As shown in FIG.1, the outer portion of the free wheel set 10 is not firmly supported by the extension tube 13 and the axle 14. In addition, only both ends of the rear hub 11 are well suPPorted by the bearings (or ball retainer) 15; nevertheless there is a lack of anu support in a portion of the axle between the bearings (or ball retainer) 15 and the rear fork tip 12. As illustrated in FIG.2, the length a of the portion between the bearings (or ball retainer) 15 and the rear fork tip 12 is so long that the free wheel set 10 is susceptible to vibrating and bending at the time when the free wheel set 10 is driven by the wheel chain, thereby causing the axle 14 to bend to undermine the transmission of the driving force.
It is therefore the Primary objective of the present invention to provide a compounded anti-impact free wheel set with a sleeve having a slot dimensioned to receive therein a roll bearing for reinforcing the support of the free wheels mounted on the outer end of the axle. The roll bearing also serves to against the impact so as to enable the compounded free wheel to rotate stably and securely but swaying.
It is another objective of the present invention to provide a comPounded anti-impact free wheel set made up of a plurality of combining free wheels which are fastened together by means of male and female threads so as to ensure that the combining free wheels of the comPounded free wheel set of the present invention are aligned with precision.
In keeping with the principle of the Present invention, the foregoing objectives of the present invention are attained by an anti-impact compunded free wheel set of bicycle, which comprises mainly a hub and a predetermined number of combining free wheels mounted securely on the hub to function collecively as a speed-changing device.
The comPounded free wheel set of the present invention is characterized in that it is made up of a plurality of free wheel units, with one of the free wheel units being fastened to one side of the hub and with the rest of the free wheel units being fastened together by means of male and female threads in conjunction with a sleeve having a slot dimensioned to receive therein securely a roll bearing for reinforcing the support of the outermost free wheel unit.
The foregoing objectives, features and advantages of the present invention will be more readily understood upon a thoughtful deliberation of the following detailed description of the present invention in conjunction with the accomPanYing drawings.
FIG.1 is a sectional view taken along the direction of the axis of the conventional free wheel set of the prior art.
FIG.2 is a schematic view illustrating the distribution of the force supporting the axle of the bicycle free sheel set of the prior art.
FIG.3 shows an exPloded view of a compounded anti-impact free wheel set of the present invention.
FIG.4 is a sectional view taken along the direction of the axis of the compounded anti-impact free wheel set of the present invention.
FIG.5 is a schematic view illustrating the distribution of the force suPPorting the axle of the compounded anti-impact free wheel set of the present invention.
FIG.6 is another exploded view of a compounded free wheel set of another Preferred embodiment of the present invention.
Referring to FIGS.3 and 4, a compounded anti-impact free wheel set of the present invention is shown comprising mainly a hub 2 and a predetermined number of free wheels 31.
The hub 2 is mounted on an axle 4 by means of bearings 21 and 22. The hub 2 is similar in construction to the prior art hub and will not be therefore described further here.
The compounded anti-impact free wheel set 31 of the present invention are similar to the free wheel set of the prior art in that the free wheels 31 are provided with ratchet gears (not shown in the drawings) which enable the free wheels 31 to turn unidirectionally. In this embodiment of the present invention, the compounded anti-impact free wheel set 31 are grouped into two free wheel sets 32 and 33. The free wheel set 32 is provided at one end thereof with a male threaded portion 321. The axle portion of another free wheel set 33 is provided with a sleeve 331 to which the free wheels 31 are fastened. The sleeve 331 is provided at one end thereof with a female threaded portion 332 engageable with the male threaded portion 321 of the free wheel set 32. In combination, the free wheel set 32 is fastened to one end of the hub 2 before the female threaded portion 332 of the free wheel set 33 is allowed to engage the male threaded portion 321 of the free wheel set 33. As a result, all free wheel sets 31 are aligned with precision.
In addition, the second free wheel set 33, which is disposed at the outermost location is provided at the axle portion thereof with a sleeve 331 having a slot 333 dimensioned to receive therein a roll bearing 334 for reinforcing the support of the second free wheel set 33 by the axle 4. The supporting point of the axle 4 is therefore extended out to the Place where the roll bearing 334 is located. The distance b between the end of the axle 4 and the rear fork tip 5 of the bicycle frame is shortened substantially as compared with the prior art, thereby protecting the axle 4 from being bent. The free wheel sets 32 and 33 can be turned stably and smoothly but swaying, thanks to the support of the roll bearing 334.
Furthermore, as shown in FIG.6, the surface 51 of one end of the sleeve 5 can be made with a recessed-protruded shaPe as to be fitted into the recessed-protruded portion 335 of the free wheel set 33, and it is preferable to remain the other end of the sleeve 5 to be threaded.
