Abstract
Surface mounted fixing and jointing bar for securing full width or "runner" stair carpets in position, comprising a pre-drilled bar that accepts fixing screws, and is fitted to the nape of tread and riser on top of the carpet. The rear of the bar is such that its profile affords secure grip to the pile of the carpet once screwed in position. The carpet is held tightly in position by the bar during installation, and as the fixing screws are only tightened halfway during fitting, the carpet is stretched even tighter upon completion, when the screws are fully fitted. <IMAGE>
Description
Description of "STAIR CARPET FIXING AND JOINTING BAR"
Unlike traditional stair rods which are secured by fixed or hinged brackets (also known as "eyes"), and were traditionally used with carpets made in "Axminster" or "Wilton" manufacturing methods, this new product is designed to fit the more modern manufactured, low cost carpets known as "tufteds" etc.
The modern way of fitting carpet means that there are usually three or more separate pieces of carpet on the stair. This product covers both the fixing and jointing at the nape of tread and riser in a secure decorative manner and without the need for spiked gripper
The bars can be trimmed to fit either fully fitted or runner carpets, and having pre-drilled holes in uniform positions along the face, they can easily be screwed through the carpet into the stair.
The points on the rear of the section secure in position and the bullnose projection pushes the carpet into the nape, whilst also giving the section its lateral strength.
Claims (4)
1. Securing means for stair carpet comprising a bar with rear gripping ribs which urge the stair carpet into the junction between tread and riser.
2. Securing means as claimed in claim 1 in which, in uSe, the bar is secured in stages with fixing screws such that the carpet is secured and stretched during installation.
3. Securing means as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 in which the rear ribs clamp the carpet to the tread and the riser.
4. Securing means as claimed in claims 1,2,3, in which the bar is provided with screw holes along its length to secure the bar on the surface of the carpet by screwing through into the stair.
