Abstract

An arrangement in a circuit breaker for automatically connecting a spring charging motor (3, Fig 1) with a spring charging assembly comprises a linkage 9 connected between a contact position indicator 8 and a solenoid 6 for closing the circuit breaker and a switch 1 connected with the motor and interacting with the indicator 8 whereby the position of the indicator 8 controls operation of the motor to charge the operating springs when the circuit breaker contacts are open. When the solenoid 6 is operated to close the circuit breaker, the indicator 8 moves to maintain the switch 1 open so as to prevent operation of the motor. When the solenoid 6 is deenergised, the indicator 8 is released to allow the motor to recharge the springs. <IMAGE>

Description

CONNECTOR FOR CIRCUIT BREAKER This invention relates to a connector for a circuit breaker.
According to the present invention an arrangement for automatically connecting a circuit breaker operating spring charging motor with the circuit breaker operating spring charging assembly comprises a linkage assembly connecting between a circuit breaker contact position indicator and a charging motor operating solenoid; and a limit switch interfacing the indicator and connecting with the motor operating solenoid; whereby the position of said indicator controls operation of said charging motor to charge the circuit breaker operating springs when the circuit breaker contacts are in an open position.
The position indicator may comprise a flag and the limit switch a normally-closed switch. Preferably, the linkage assembly includes a lever connecting between the solenoid and the contact position indicator.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, of which: Figure 1 is a schematic circuit diagram of a circuir breaker incorporating an embodiment of the present invention; and Figure 2(a) is a diagrammatic end view of the embodiment of Figure 1; and Figure 2(b) is a diagrammatic top view of the contact portion of the embodiment of Figure 2(a).
The closed solenoid maintained anti-pump shown on Figures 1, 2a and 2b is designed to be used with a power circuit breaker motor operator mechanism.
The circuit in Figure 1 is shown with circuit breaker closing springs discharged and main breaker contacts open.
The "G" limit switch 1 is attached to the charging system.
The normally closed "G" contact 2 opens when the charging system is in the charged position which cuts off the motor 3. The normally opened contact 4 closes at the same instant electrically enabling a remote close via a revert to their original positions when the charging system rotates away from the fully charged position during closing and when the closing solenoid 6 is de-energized.
The closing solenoid 6 is energized through the normally open "G" contact 4 and the customer provided remote close switch 5. The normally open "G" contact 4 is closed when the motor 3 has charged the closing springs and has been cut-off by the normally closed contact 2 opening.
The closing solenoid 6 when energized activates the closing linkages of the breaker 7 and additionally maintains an anti-pump flag 8 up against the motor limit switch "G" 1 that keeps the normally closed contact 2 to the motor 3 open preventing it from operating and pumping the breaker.
The normally open contact 4 that energized the closing solenoid 6 is held closed by the anti-pump flag 8 until such time that the customer provided remote close switch 5 is opened. When the remote close switch 5 is opened, the closing solenoid 6 is de-energized releasing the anti-pump flat 8, allowing the charging cycle to resume.
