Description
1 2287690 A UNITARY ELEMENT FOR CONSERVING A DEPILATORY COMPOSITION FOR
"ORIENTAL" DEPILATION TREATMENTS, AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURE The present invention relates to a unitary element for conserving a depilatory composition based on sugar, honey, or other sugary substance, fruit juice (or the equivalent), or vinegar, and water, and intended to enable appropriate quantities to be taken at any time as a function of requirements for performing "oriental" depilation treatments without making use of hot wax. The invention also extends to a method of manufacture.
Until now, such depilatory compositions have been prepared in batches that are not immediately available for treatment. It has been necessary to put the desired quantity into a receptacle (or "pan"), to heat it sufficiently to cause it to soften, and then to allow it to coal down shortly before use. This causes time to be lost, and resulting composition is not always at the most appropriate consistency, adhesive power, or temperature. In addition, the surface of the stored composition softens on coming into contact with moisture in the air and that spoils its properties in the long term.
French patent FR-A-1 287 305 proposes a depilatory pad whose backing is constituted by a sheet or thread of polyethylene, chlorine-containing rubber, or other plastics material, or a waterproof textile cloth. The entire pad including its backing is applied to the skin.
US patent US-A-3 808 637 relates to a depilatory pad including a backing constituted by a sheet of polyethylene, polyvinylidene chloride, or paper, and covered in a polyurethane foam that is impregnated in a sticky syrup.
The elements of those two patents include a depilatory composition constituting a quantity sufficient for a single treatment, and the backing continues to adhere to the composition and is used for removing the composition from the skin at the end of the treatment.
2 There is therefore no need to make it easy to separate the backing from successive quantities of depilatory composition without the backing being damaged or torn.
An object of the invention is to provide a unitary element for conserving such a composition which enables quantities required for individual treatments to be taken directly therefrom without any need to subject them to heating and then partial cooling down, which keeps the properties of the initial composition intact over a long period, and which reduces the cost of an individual treatment.
The unitary element of the invention is characterized in that it comprises a fill of composition contained inside a sheet of polypropylene or of a copolymer of propylene and another ethylenicallyunsaturated monomer, such as a copolymer of propylene and ethylene or of propylene and a vinyl compound. This has the advantage of not sticking to the composition, unlike other materials which tend to tear when it is desired to remove a portion of the composition.
The most favorable ingredients of the composition and their respective proportions are about 1 kg of sugar, honey, or other sugary substance, 10 to 30 centiliters of fruit juice, preferably lemon juice (i.e. about the juice of one lemon), or else of vinegar, and 20 to 25 centiliters of water. It is also possible to replace lemon juice by a corresponding quantity of citric acid, or by grapefruit juice. It is also possible to add about ten drops of essential oils having antiseptic and hair regrowth delaying properties, such as red oil of thyme, or oil of.thuya, of palmarosa, of rosemary, or of carotene, or a mixture of essential oils whose nature and effectiveness are well known.
The method of manufacturing the unitary element of the invention is characterized in that the water and the sugar, honey, or other sugary substance are mixed together in a receptacle and the mixture is brought to 9 Mi 1 3 the boil, in that the mixture is then kept simmering, and the fruit juice or vinegar is then added, in that the mixture is again kept simmering for a certain length of time after which it is allowed to cool down a little, in that the resulting hot mixture is poured into molds, in that after cooling the composition is unmolded while avoiding any contact with the fingers, and it is placed In the middle of a sheet of polypropylene or of a copolymer of propylene and another ethylenicallyunsaturated monomer, and in that the margins of the sheet are folded over the composition.
If drops of essential oils are added, this is done after simmering.
The mixture is preferably kept simmering after addition of the fruit juice (or equivalent) or of the vinegar, which serves to make the already thick composition a little thinner, for about two-thirds the length of time during which it was kept simmering before said addition takes place. The absolute length of time during which such simmering takes place depends on the total quantity of composition to be made. By way of example, it may be about 10 to 12 minutes for the simmering prior to adding fruit juice, and 7 to 8 minutes thereafter, for the purpose of preparing a fill of one kg of composition.
It is not very easy to determine the most favorable moment for pouring the mixture into a mold. This moment can be detected with better accuracy by taking a test sample and allowing it to cool for a few minutes, and then testing whether it sticks to the finger.
The hot mixture is preferably poured into molds lined with a material such as card which is coated on its faces with a film of polypropylene or of a copolymer of propylene and another ethylenically-unsaturated monomer placed in molds made of wood (or molds made of some other material having analogous properties). Unmolding is then performed with the help of the mold liners and without 4 difficulties due to the composition sticking, while nevertheless ensuring that the composition does not come into contact with the fingers.
The element of the invention makes it possible to prepare a considerable quantity of depilatory composition in advance, and to conserve it for quite a long time (in a location that is cool and dry), and then to make it easy to take therefrom at any moment such a quantity as may be required, which quantity will have retained all of the qualities of the initial composition.
It is appropriate to adapt the consistency of the composition to the parts of the body that are to be treated. For underarm hair and pubic hair, it is preferable to use a composition that adheres moderately to the fingers and that has a texture which is relatively hard (like modelling clay). For the thighs and the calves a more adhesive composition is preferred (like chewing gum). The composition gives best results if applied at a temperature in the range 200C to 300C.
After several treatments, this composition ensures complete depilation for a period of several months, it allows immediate exposure to the sun, and the hair which grows back in the end is very fair.
