Abstract

A hodometer 10, 20, 30 attached to a golf trolley or the like, with the facility to register an input yardage and show the yards remaining through a calculator and display unit as the trolley is moved toward the hole. The distance travelled can also be displayed and the distance remaining can become the new input yardage thus allowing the player to know the distance of each shot played and to play. <IMAGE>

GOLF HODOMETER This invention relates to a golf hodometer.

Golfers have to gauge distances whereas knowledge of the distance of most shots would improve their scores.

According to the present invention there is provided a device for a golf trolley or golf vehicle or the like, the device comprising input means for receiving an initial range value, means for measuring and preferably displaying the distance covered by the golf trolley or golf vehicle or the like, and means for calculating and preferably displaying the remaining distance.

A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Fig 1 shows in perspective a golf trolley with actuator, sensor and control and display unit.

Fig 2 shows in perspective the control and display unit.

Fig 3 shows in perspective a trolley wheel with actuator and sensor.

Fig 4 shows a schematic diagram of the control and display unit.

Referring to the drawings the hodometer comprises actuator 10, sensor 20 and control and display unit 30.

In order to operate the hodometer, two data must be entered:- Datum C which is the wheel circumference, e.g. 28.5 (inches); Datum Y which is the yardage, i.e. yards from tee to green, e.g. 456.

To enter Datum C: while pressing button 80, press button 50 until the number 2 is displayed; press button 60 until the number 8 is displayed; press button 70 until the number 5 is displayed.

This enters the wheel circumference into counter 95.

To enter Datum Y: press button 50 until the number 4 is displayed; press button 60 until the number 5 is displayed; press button 70 until the number 6 is displayed.

This enters the yardage into counter 90.

The display now shows the yardage to the green. Referring to figs 1 and 4, as the trolley moves forward the wheel revolutions are recorded by the actuator, 10 and sensor, 20 (fig 1) and stored in counter 120 (fig 4). This datum is transferred to counter 110 where it is multiplied by the constant C held in counter 95 (the circumference: 28.5 inches) and divided by 36 to give the yards travelled (GONE). After eg 301 wheel revolutions the distance covered is 238 yards. The function of counter 100 is to subtract the product of counter 110 from the constant Y held in counter 90 (456 yards) giving the distance remaining (TOGO, 218 yards). The product of counter 100 is automatically displayed, therefore when the ball is reached after the first shot the display shows the remaining distance. Pressing button 50 with button 60 will display counter 110, i.e. distance of previous shot, and move the product of counter 100 to counter 90.

Pressing button 60 with button 70 will zeroise counters 110 and 120, allowing the distance of the next shot to be calculated. Pressing button 50 with button 60 and button 70 will zeroise counters 90, 100, 110 and 120.

CLAIMS.
1. Claim 1.

   A device for a golf trolley or golf vehicle or the like the device comprising input means for receiving an initial range value, means for measuring and preferably displaying the distance covered by the golf trolley or golf vehicle or the like, and means for calculating and preferably displaying the remaining distance.
2. Claim 2.

   A hodometer as claimed in Claim 1 with the means for replacing the initial range value with the remaining distance.
