Abstract

The escape chute comprises a box 10, a chute 12 and a releasable, detachable lid 13 which is fixed to the leading edge of the chute 12. When needed the lid 13 is thrown in the direction of the ground. By pulling the handle 18 of the throwing lid 13 the edges 19 of the chute 12 become and remain taut creating a tunnel in which to slide. In the event of nobody being at ground level to collect the lid and hold it taut, it can also be used as a climbing net. <IMAGE>

n SPECIFIC EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION WILL NOW BE DESCRIBED BY WAY OF EXAMPLE, WITH REFERENCE TO THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWING IN WHICH FIGURE 1 SHOWS IN PERSPECTIVE, THE ESCAPE CHUTE, WITH THE HOUSING BOX IN POSITION ON THE WINDOW CILL.
FIGURE 2 ILLUSTRATES THE SEPARATION OF THE LID FROM THE BOX.
FIGURE 3 SHOWS THE LID, AND CHUTE FULLY LOWERED TO THE GROUND.
FIGURE 4 SHOWS THE WINDOW WITH THE CHUTE FULLY EXTENDED.
FIGURE 5 SHOWS THE FIRE ESCAPE CHUTE FULLY EXTENDED, NND THE NETHOD OF SECURING, AND EXTENDING THE CHUTE.
REFERING TO THE DRAWLING THE ESCAPE CHUTE COMPRISES R HOUSING BOX 10 Q LENGTH OF MATERIAL IN THE FORM OF n CHUTE 12 AND R RELEASRBLE, DETACHABLE LID 13 WHICH IS FIXED TO THE LEADING EDGE OF THE CHUTE 12.
IN ORDER TO REMOVE THE LID 13 FROM THE BOX 10 THE LID 13 IS LIFTED FROM THE BOX 10 NS SHOWN IN FIG 2 THE MEANS OF SECURING THE LID 13 TO THE BOX 10 IS RELESSED AND THE LID 13 IS THROWN FROM THE WINDOW AS ILLUSTRATED IN FIG 3. THE LID 13 IS THROWN IN THE DIRECTION OF THE YARROW 14 UNTIL IT REACHES THE GROUND 15 FIG 3.
THE CHUTE 12 IS THEN EXTENDED UNTIL ARRESTED BY THE LENGTH OF MATERIAL 12 FIG 4.
IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN STABILITY OF THE CHUTE 12 WHILST IN USE TWO STQBLISING STRAPS 16 ARE LINKED TO TWO HOOKS 17 FITTED TO THE UNDERNEATH OF THE WINDOW OPENING AS SHOWN IN FIG 5.
BY PULLING ON THE HANDLE 18 OF THE THROWING LID 13 THE EDGES 19 OF THE CHUTE 12 BECOME, AND REMAIN TAUT AS ILLUSTRATED IN FIG 4 EFFECTIVELY CREATING R TUNNEL DOWN WHICH TO SLIDE. FIG 4 & 5.
