Abstract

228,273. Collinson, S., and Coultas, F. Nov. 3, 1923. Shoe collectors; trolly heads and the like.-A trolly head or like collector comprises a base plate carrying a number of shoes, one or more being pivotally mounted in slots in the base plate, which is carried by a fork permitting it to tilt and fall clear of the wire in the event of accidental de-wiring. The invention may be applied to a system employing a rail as conductor. As shown, the base plate B carries three shoes S, the central one being fixed or pivoted thereto, and the outer shoes being pivotally mounted in slots B<1> in the plate. In a modified form, the central shoe is mounted in a slot, and the. end plates can turn without sliding. Means may be provided whereby the shoes, after passing a curved portion of the conductor, are restored to their normal position. The shoes may be attached to each other by pivots or hinges and may be resiliently mounted on the base-plate. The trolly head is carried by a forked bracket A<3> connected to the trolly arm A and provided with slots A<4> adapted to support a pivot pin B<3> on the base-plate so that, if the trolly head is displaced on meeting an obstruction, it falls clear of the wire, the pivot pin B<3> sliding down to the bottom of the slots A<4>. The trolly head is restored to its normal position by means of a rope R.
