Abstract

A programmable locking and latching mechanism comprises a door mounted high resolution image scanner able to descriminate thumbprints, an electronic signal from the scanner is processed by a programmable comparator associated with the lock mechanism and battery powered. A normally open contact is closed when the scanned image is recognised to unlatch the door locking mechanism and release a shutter normally blocking a key receiving aperture. After a preset delay the shutter returns to the blocking condition and the latch resets. <IMAGE>

Description

A SECURITY DEVICE The complete system is an electro-mechanical device consisting of An image scanner, a programmable controller a replay panel and a special lock with a latch and shutter. The scanner will scan an image held close to it, transmit a signal (electrical) through a screened cable which will be received or rejected by the PC. The PC is programmed to identify signals on the basis of identifiable characteristics. It is battery operated, 24v DC. or less and is provided with a normally open contact. Pl. see sketch SKM 04/08/93. This contact can activate a relay panel containing miniature relays, electronic timer and latch and shutter solenoids. Please see key diagram No BLK 3. 02/08/93.
An appropriate signal will be recognised by the PC, the N/O contact will activate relays, timer and solenoids as in the diagram. The latch of lock will lift, shutter moves outwards exposing the key hole. (1-12c) seconds later a timed contact de-energises the panel, the shutter closes first and latch resets. The scanner, high resolution, scans personal mark of identification (thumbprint) and keeps out unwanted visitors.
The scanner controller combination - as in the sketch marked SKM 23/07/93.
The system is designed to operate a specified no. of times per day, every day, within the range - 300C to 400C.
The combination, arranged suitably, provides higher degree of protection from intrusion to families, vehicles etc.
More details on request.
CLAIMS My patent request, stated formally, will be as below: " A high security locking system for motor vehicle, residential home, family private room etc - has image scanner, programmable security device, a relay panel and a special lock - for recognition of user characteristic/personal mark of identification such as thumbprint".
Note: 'Bed' deleted and replaced by 'private' from patent information unit correspondence DT 23/07/93. (LEEDS Unit).

Claims (1)

  1. Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows
The Bedford lock essentially consists of three areas:
    i) The microelectronic control which will include a microprocessor unit, read and write memory bank, read only memory unit (chip), data bus, address and control busses, 1/0 units, and external to the enclosure a high resolution scanner fitted with flexible, multi-core cable.
ii) A relay panel (electro-magnetic) for control.
Fitted inside there will be a miniature relay, other relays and solenoids etc.
iii) Finally, a special mechanical lock unit.
When assembled and tested the unit will function and achieve generally as claimed in the original abstract of 24/08/93 - there is a copy with Patent Office.
After a round of feasibility investigation, it now appears certain that by combining these three disciplines (micro electronic, electro-mechanical and mechanical) it is possible to produce a device which will provide high degree of protection from intrusion and mischief to families, vehicles etc. and also in a modified form when the principle is extended to cash till services, a higher rate of prevention of unauthorised withdrawal will be achieved.
Unless a person is introduced to it, the operational details and principles involved are not obvious without access to paperwork.
