Abstract
An electrical component (1) is incorporated in a chip-like construction with a package (2) which is sealed by a lid (3). An additional part (6) is disposed between the component (1) and the lid (3) or package (2) to secure the component (1) in a vibration and shock resistant manner. The additional part (6) may be made of a temperature-resistant plastic (silicone) and be of a spherical or cylindrical shape or designed as a cup spring. The component (1) may be a toroidal core choke. <IMAGE>
Description
CHIP CONSTRUCTION
The invention relates to a chip construction for an electrical component, in particular a toroidal-core choke, which electrical component is incorporated in a package sealed by a lid and is fixed in position in a vibration-resistant and shock-resistant manner.
Such a construction is disclosed in German Utility
Model 91 11 508. The latter describes a toroidal-core coil which is incorporated in a package having a central dome, a retaining disc being disposed in such a way that it fixes the component in position by means of a press fit above the toroidal-core coil on the central dome.
The known design consequently requires a package which has a central dome.
The invention therefore seeks to provide a chip construction having a fixing for an electrical component, which fixing can also be used in packages of simpler, and consequently less expensive, design, in particular in packages without a central dome.
According to the present invention there is provided a chip construction comprising an electrical component disposed in a package sealed by a lid, and an additional part disposed between the package or the lid and the component for fixing the electrical component in position in a vibration-resistant and shockresistant manner.
Advantageously, the additional part is designed as a plastic moulding composed of temperature-resistant plastic, for example silicone, and has, for example, a spherical or cylindrical shape or is designed as a cup spring.
It is also possible, furthermore, that the additional part is composed of a plastic mass.
For a better understanding of the present invention, and to show how it may be brought into effect, reference will now be made, by way of example, to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 shows a first embodiment of this invention;
Figure 2 shows a second embodiment of this invention; and
Figure 3 shows a third embodiment of this invention.
Figure 1 shows a toroidal-core choke 1 which is incorporated in a package comprising a cup-shaped part 2 and a lid 3, which are joined together in a sealed manner at the point 4, for example by an ultrasonic weld. Connecting leads 5 for the toroidal-core choke 1 are disposed at the base of the cup-shaped package part 2.
Disposed between cup-shaped package part 2 and lid 3 is a plastic moulding 6 which, before fitting, has, for example, a spherical shape or cylindrical shape.
Plastic moulding 6 fixes the toroidal-core choke 1 in position in the package in a vibration-resistant and shock-resistant manner.
Figure 2 shows a further embodiment in which the toroidal-core choke 1 is fixed in position by a plastic moulding designed as a cup spring 7.
The plastic mouldings 6 and 7 in Figures 1 and 2, respectively, are preferably composed of a temperatureresistant plastic such as, for example, silicone.
Figure 3 shows a third embodiment of the present invention, in which the toroidal-core choke 1 is fixed in position by a plastic mass 8 which is disposed between lid and toroidal-core choke 1.
Claims (8)
1. Chip construction comprising an electrical component disposed in a package sealed by a lid, and an additional part disposed between the package or the lid and the component for fixing the electrical component in position in a vibration-resistant and shockresistant manner.
2. Chip construction according to claim 1, wherein the additional part has, before fitting, a spherical shape or cylindrical shape.
3. Chip construction according to claim 1, wherein the additional part is designed as a cup spring.
4. Chip construction according to claim 1, wherein the additional part is composed of a plastic mass.
5. Chip construction according to any preceding claims, wherein the additional part is designed as a plastic moulding composed of temperature-resistant plastic.
6. Chip construction according to claim 5, wherein the additional part is composed of silicone.
7. Chip construction as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the electrical component is a toroidalcore choke.
8. Chip construction substantially as herein described with reference to Figure 1, 2 or 3 of the accompanying drawings.
