Abstract

Stream-cutting machines.-Caramels or other soft sweetmeats are separated from a cut slab by shaking the slab between two surfaces disposed apart at a distance slightly greater than the thickness of the slab. As shown, the shaking-surfaces 6, 7 are carried by a downwardlyinclined member 5 adapted to be oscillated about pivots 4 by eccentrics 13 which may be adjustable. The bottom surface 7 is corrugated longitudinally to break up the slab and is perforated for the passage of fragments. In use, a divided slab of caramel &c. is placed upon a table 17 and, after trimming, is transferred to an extension of the surface 7 and passes between the surfaces 6, 7, the separated caramels &c. falling on to a sieve 23 over which they are brushed by hand or mechanically into a receiving-tray 25. Fragments passing through the perforations in the members 7, 23 fall into a tray 22.
