Description

TITLE Patterned Cosmetic Nail DESCRIPTION This invention relates in general to a decoration in the field of cosmetics. More particularly, the invention concerns a patterned cosmetic nail, which is applied in daily nail cosmetic decoration.

It is well known that existing nail cosmetic decoration products are usually in a liquid form and applied to the nail by a coating process, which requires time consuming handling and application of liquids. On account of the nature of the liquid coating process, it is a necessity to use an organic chemical solvent in removing, correcting or changing the decoration. The potential of a negative influence on humans and the environment cannot be excluded. Morevoer the coating process limits the possibility of various design patterns and colour combinations in an instant application of nail cosmetic decoration.

Under these conditions it is apparent that a need exists for a patterned cosmetic nail which enables a person to have an extensive selection of patterns and/or colours and to require only a short time for cosmetic decorating. Simultaneously, such a patterned cosmetic nail does not have a negative influence on the human body.

An object of the present invention is to provide a patterned cosmetic nail utilizing an adhesion process instead of the traditional coating process in the application of nail cosmetic decoration and being in the general shape of a human fingernail or toenail.

The above mentioned object is achieved by the invention, which comprises two layers, a decoration design pattern layer and an adhesion layer, wherein the decoration design pattern layer is formed on one side of a thin film or a thin plate out of material such as natural polymer, synthetic polymer, natural leather, synthetic leather, glass material, metallic material, alloy material, paper, bamboo or the like as well as a combination thereof; and the adhesion layer is directly located on another side of the said thin film or thin plate.

In order to provide a better protection of the layer surface, a hardness improvement agent, elasticity improvement agent and/or water repelling agent could be coated on the layer's surface to increase its resistance against unexpected mechanical and physical damage. In order to enhance special optical design effects a surface coating on the layer surface with material providing a special optical property - for example reflection or refraction - could be combined.

Figure 1 shows a plan view of a patterned cosmetic nail embodying the present invention.

Figure 2 shows a section taken along line A - A of Fig.1.

Figure 3 shows a section indicating an alternative embodiment within the invention.

The following is a description of a patterned cosmetic nail according to the present invention, reference being made to the drawings in which like reference numerals identify like elements of structure in each of the several figures.

Referring to Fig.l and Fig.2, a patterned cosmetic nail 1 is shown which comprises two layers 2 and 4, wherein the layer 2 is a decoration design pattern layer and the layer 4 is an adhesion layer. The decoration design pattern layer 2 is formed on one side of a base material 3, which may be a thin film or a thin plate. The thin film or thin plate may be made from natural polymer, synthetic polymer, natural leather, synthetic leather, glass material, metallic material, alloy material, paper, bamboo or the like as well as a combination thereof.

The layer 4, the adhesion layer, provides fixation of the cosmetic nail when it is applied to a fingernail or toenail, and functions as a background in supporting the design effect depending on the base material 3. The layer 4 is located directly under the base material 3 and is composed of an adhesive coating or a double sided adhesive coated sheet and an adhesive protection sheet. The adhesive protection sheet can be removed easily before the application of the cosmetic nail to a fingernail or toenail.

Referring to Fig.3, this is another embodiment of the invention. It is different from the above in that the base material 3 is preformed into a camber, the curvature of which substantially conforms to that of the human nail.

The layer 2 and the layer 4 are again a decoration design pattern layer and an adhesion layer respectively.

In the manufacture of the invention, the design pattern of the layer 2 will be prepared by mixing, coating or printing of dyestuffs or pigments in or on the material to be used depending on the desired design effect. The surface protection material or special optically effective material is then coated or attached by means of a fixing agent. The adhesive component of the layer 4, a coating of an adhesive or a double sided adhesive-coated sheet will be fixed under the layer 3. The adhesive protection sheet will be put on. Finally, the patterned cosmetic nail will be pressed to a desired form and be cut out in a desired size. The total thickness of layers 2, 3 and 4 is between 0.05 - 2.00 mm. The size of the cosmetic nail is between 25 and 1000 mm2.

In order to better illustrate the invention, some practical examples of preferred embodiments are reported below. These, however, are simply illustrative and must not be intended as a limitation of the invention claimed hereby.

Example 1 The patterned cosmetic nail according to the invention was constituted by a film of PE transparent plastic having a thickness of 0.5 mm, wherein one side thereof was tinted with dyestuff, which provides different design possibilities through a combination of colours, patterns, symbols or figures in accordance with the requirements. Simultaneously, in order to provide a better protection of the decoration surface and/or to enhance special design effects, for example reflection or refraction, the decoration surface was further treated with various agents such as hardness improvement agent, elasticity improvement agent and water repelling agent.

The other side thereof was coated with adhesive to which an adhesive protection sheet was attached. In general, the decoration surface need not be treated.

Example 2 With the exception of the PE plastic being printed with pigment point pattern, a thickness of 0.4 mm and the decoration surface being treated with glyoxal resin protection, it is essentially the same as Example 1.

Example 3 Natural leather printed with pigment line pattern and having a thickness of 0.4 mm was used, the decoration surface was finished with water repelling coating and a double sided adhesive-coated sheet with an adhesive protection sheet was applied.

Example 4 With the exception of using paper printed with colour figures, a thickness of 0.2 mm and the decoration surface being finished with protection coating, it is essentially the same as Example 1.

Example 5 The pattern cosmetic nail according to the invention consisted of a thin plate of stainless steel or alloy having a thickness of 0.2 mm and being preformed into a camber, the curvature of which conformed substantially to that of the human nail. Then the convex side of the camber was coated with pigment and the other one was coated with an adhesive or a double sided adhesive coated sheet and an adhesive protection sheet was put on it.

Finally, the patterned cosmetic nails made in the above examples were pressed to a desired form and cut out in a desired size, preferably being between 25 and 1000 mm2. The total thickness of the pattern cosmetic decoration nails according to the present invention is preferably between 0.05 and 2.00 mm.

Claims

1. A patterned cosmetic nail which comprises a decoration design pattern layer and an adhesion layer, wherein the decoration design pattern layer is formed on one side of a thin film or a thin plate and the adhesion layer is directly located on another side of the said film or plate.

2. A patterned cosmetic nail as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the said thin film or thin plate is made from natural polymer, synthetic polymer, natural leather, synthetic leather, glass material, metallic material, alloy material, paper, bamboo or a combination of these.

3. A patterned cosmetic nail as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2, wherein the decoration design pattern layer has a pattern combination out of points, lines, area, symbols or figures in one colour or multicolour by means of dyeing, printing or coating with dyestuff or pigments.

4. A patterned cosmetic nail as claimed in Claim 1, 2 or 3, wherein the design pattern is further treated with various agents, such as hardness improvement agent, elasticity improvement agent, water repelling agent, special property agent or the like, in order to protect the patterned surface and/or to enhance its special design effects, for example reflection or refraction.

5. A patterned cosmetic nail as claimed in any preceding claim, in which the said adhesion layer is replaced by a double sided adhesive coated sheet which is directly put on one side of the said film or plate.

6. A patterned cosmetic nail as claimed in any preceding claim, having a total thickness of 0.05 2.00 mm and a size of 25 - 1000 mm2.

7. A patterned cosmetic nail as claimed in any preceding claim, being curved to match the general curvature of a human fingernail or toenail.

8. A patterned cosmetic nail substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1 to 3 of the accompanying drawings.
