Abstract

A flexible latch has a cable pull, with inner and outer cables, one end has a pull handle connected to the inner cable. The cable pull assembly is connected to a latch assembly that has a body with a sliding bolt, end stop and spring. The body has a slot that allows a grub screw, that is connected to the bolt, and pinches the inner cable, thus completing the assembly and allowing the bolt to move a specific distance longditudinal, and stops a radial movement. When a pull force is applied to the handle, the force is transmitted to the latch bolt thus opening the latch or the particular application it is fixed to. This inventive step thus allows for a pull force in one place to be transmitted to another place where it does the work. <IMAGE>

Description

Flexible General Purpose Catch This invention relates to a flexible catch used main3y for furniture applications but has a general purpose.
Catches of one sort or another are used all the time in releasing items when wanted to be released, and locking when not.
fi problem is in the linkage in getting from the point where they can effectivly be operated , to where the catch actually s.
This invention uses cable pull as used in the Ruto industry to transmit a pulling force, in the furniture industry to transmit a similar force but for releasing furniture items The inventive step is bringing them together to produce a very effective catch for furniture , household, marine, and general use.
A specific description of the product will be made by use of an application on a special type of furniture.
Fig 1 shows a diagram of the assembled latch Fig 2 shows a diagram of the separate parts of the latch.
Fig 3 shows the application on a flip up gas spring chair for old people tripe use.
The catch is assembled by having a main body, with a bolt that slides inside its extruded form. n slot is made in the main body on the centre line of the extruded hole allows the cable lock screw to slide longditudially while it does its job of holding the canine and keeping the bolt from turning.
n cable stop is pressed into the hole of the body. the cable inner and outer is fed into the cable stop. From the other end the spring and the bolt are assembled and the grub screw pinched up locking the cable inside the bolt, when the screw hloe lanes up in the slot on the main body.
the assembly is now complete, and can only come apart when the grub screw is slackened off letting out the inner cable from the bolt for assembly in furniture ect.
when the cable outer is secured at the handle end into the furniture , it is quite simple to see that when the inner is pulled via the handle the latch bolt will withdraw into its body thus opening the latch and the equipment it is connected to.

Claims (1)

1 n flexible catch containing two main elements of a) n cable pull with inner and outer to transmit a pull force b) n latch having a body, and an inner sprung loaded bolt that will respond to the pull force.
2 n latch body that has a means of holding a bolt and cable inner and outer together by means of a gub screw 3 fi latch body that by the same means as in 2 stops rotation of a round type bolt and also the extent of ongditudinal travel of the bolt.
4 n latch body that by the same means as in 2 holds and secures a spring within the assembly so that a return force can be present for reset in the operation of the latch.
