Abstract

A joint protecting pad is detachably secured to an article of clothing by, for example, buttons, zips or poppers. In the embodiment shown the pad 1 is permanently secured to backing material 2, as by adhesive or stitching, and the material 2 is provided with button holes 3 for securing the pad to the clothing. In an alternative embodiment, a pocket (4, Fig. 2) is permanently or detachably secured to the clothing and the pad is located in the pocket The ability to remove the pad facilitates laundering and broadens the choice of materials that can be used. <IMAGE>

Description

JOINT PROTECTORS THIS INVENTION RELATES TO DETACHABLE CUSHIONED JOINT PROTECTORS.
CUSHIONED JOINT PROTECTORS TYPICALLY CONSIST OF A CUSHIONED PAD WHICH IS SECURED OVER THE JOINT BY STRAPS OR THE PAD IS JOINED BY ELASTIC TO FORM A TUBE WHICH IS SLIPPED OVER THE JOINT. READY PADDED CLOTHING IS ALSO AVAILABLE.
IN USE THE SECURING OF THE PAD BY STRAPS OR ELASTIC IS A PROBLEM AS IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO SECURE THE PAD TIGHT ENOUGH SO AS NOT TO SLIP BUT LOOSE ENOUGH FOR COMFORT AND CIRCULATION. IN THE CASE OF READY PADDED CLOTHING THE PADDING HAS TO BE FULLY WASHABLE AND DRYABLE WHICH MAY LIMIT THE MOST SUITABLY PROTECTIVE MATERIALS.
DRYING TIME IS INCREASED DUE TO PADDED AREAS. ALSO ONCE THE PADDED AREA'S WORN OUT THE ITEM OF CLOTHING HAS TO BE REPLACED.
ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT INVENTION THERE IS PROVIDED A CUSHIONED PAD WHICH IS RELEASABLY SECURED TO CLOTHING BY, FOR EXAMPLE, BUTTONS, ZIPS OR POPPERS OR SIMILAR MEANS.
TWO SPECIFIC EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION WILL NOW BE DESCRIBED BY WAY OF EXAMPLE WITH REFERENCE TO THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS IN WHICH: FIGURE 1 SHOWS A PAD ATTACHED TO MATERIAL CONTAINING BUTTON HOLES FIGURE 2 SHOWS A POCKET IN WHICH THE PAD IS PLACED AND HELD IN PLACE BY BUTTONED FLAP. THE BACK OF THE POCKET IS LARGER THAN THE REST OF THE POCKET WHEREIN THE BUTTON HOLES ARE CONTAINED.
REFERING TO THE DRAWING FIGURE 1 COMPRISES A PAD 1 PERMANENTLY SECURED TO A SUITABLE MATERIAL 2 BY, FOR EXAMPLE, ADHESIVE, STITCHING OR SIMILAR MEANS. THE MATERIAL HAS BUTTON HOLES 3 FOR RELEASABLY SECURING TO CLOTHING.
REFERING TO THE DRAWING FIGURE 2 SHOWS A POCKET 4 INTO WHICH THE PAD IS PLACED AND SECURED BY WAY OF A FLAP 5 WHICH IS SECURED BY, FOR EXAMPLE, BUTTON, ZIP OR SIMILAR MEANS. THE BACK OF THE POCKET 6 PROTRUDES ALL AROUND THE POCKET WHEREIN ARE CONTAINED THE BUTTON HOLES FOR RELEASABLY SECURING THE POCKET TO THE CLOTHING.

Claims (5)

1. A CUSHIONED PAD WHICH IS RELEASABLY SECURED TO
CLOTHING BY, FOR EXAMPLE, BUTTONS, ZIPS, POPPERS OR SIMILAR MEANS.
2. A CUSHIONED PAD AS CLAIMED IN 1 WHERE THE PAD HAS THE MEANS OF ATTACHING ITSELF TO CLOTHING BY HAVING FOR EXAMPLE, ZIPS, POPPERS, BUTTONS OR SIMILAR MEANS, BEING PERMANENTLY SECURED TO PAD.
3. A CUSHIONED PAD AS CLAIMED IN 1 WHERE THE PAD IS PERMANENTLY SECURED TO A SUITABLE MATERIAL BY, FOR EXAMPLE, ADHESIVE STITCHING OR SIMILAR MEANS. THE MATERIAL IS RELEASABLY SECURED TO THE CLOTHING BY, FOR EXAMPLE, BUTTONS, ZIPS, POPPERS OR SIMILAR MEANS.
4. A CUSHIONED PAD AS CLAIMED IN 1 WHICH IS PLACED WITHIN A POCKET WHICH IS REMOVABLE BY, FOR EXAMPLE, FLAP, ZIP, BUTTON OR SIMILAR MEANS. THE POCKET IS RELEASABLY SECURED TO CLOTHING BY, FOR EXAMPLE, BUTTONS, ZIPS, POPPERS OR SIMILAR MEANS.
5. A CUSHIONED PAD AS CLAIMED IN 4 WHEREIN THE POCKET IS PERMANENTLY SECURED TO CLOTHING BY, FOR EXAMPLE, ADHESIVE, STITCHING OR SIMILAR MEANS.
