Stoppers, cleaning. - In machines of the kind described in Specification 12192/11 comprising a chain adapted to carry the stoppers past brushes submerged in water, the brush for cleaning the tops of the stoppers is mounted above the chain on an arm pivoted to a slide on the wall of the tank. The stoppers 46 are inserted in the links of the chain 2 passing over sprocket wheels 3, 4 and are carried under the brush 30 connected by parallel links 28 to an arm 26 pivoted to a slide 21 movable horizontally in a support 20 fixed to the tank 1. The slide 21 is moved by a handle 22, pivoted at 23 to the support 20 and connected by a pin 24 to the slide, to move the brush 30 across the chain and is clamped in position by a screw 25. On the lower run of the chain the stoppers are prevented from falling out by a guide 9 and are carried between a pair of rotating brushes 31 which clean the screw parts. At 15 the guide 9 slopes away from the chain 2 so that the stoppers fall partly from the chain and the part immediately below the head is cleaned by fixed brushes 37 of which one may be stiffer than the other to impart a turning movement to the stoppers. A spray 40 rinses the stoppers before they are delivered to a shoot 39. The sprocket wheel 4 is carried by the guide 9 and the tension in the chain may be adjusted by a screw 14.
