Abstract
A holder 6 for floppy discs or compact discs can have printed messages and be sent in a flat state to a receiver. The receiver easily assembles the holder into a vertical column with slots 8 where the discs can be placed. The holder is punched out of cardboard on which there is printed information. The sender can send the unassembled holder in a flat envelope to the receiver. The receiver assembles the holder by folding the long sides of the upper part (2', 2") and flaps (3', 3") thereafter the paper tabs (5', 5") from the base (4) are removed and the base is pressed against the underside of the upper parts flaps (3', 3"). Thereafter the holder is ready 6 to have discs placed in it (see Figures 1 and 2). <IMAGE>
Description
DISC HOLDER
This invention concerns a holder for the storage of flat objects, especially computer discs e.g., floppy discs and compact discs.
The wellknown holders are often box shaped and should be able to fully encase the disc. The holders are thus too voluminous to send with flat envelopes and are therefore not suitable for mass distribution with the normal mail system e.g., direct mail. The existing holders are likewise characterized with that they are not well suited for advertising media for other products than the holder themselves or the discs that eventually are distributed with the holders.
The invention provides a holder as mentioned in the above introduction, but which amends the above mentioned disadvantages of wellknown holders. This can be obtained through claim 1's stated characteristics, since information can be printed on the holder, and the holder can be sent to the receiver in an unassembled and flat state. Hereby one achieves the advantage that the invention can be cheaply and easily forwarded by mail e.g. in connection with distribution of letters.
Thereafter the receiver easily assembles the holder, so when assembled it functions appears as a standing advertisement (e.g. on a desk), in which the discs can be placed in.
Since the holder can be distributed in a flat state in e.g flat envelopes, and since the receiver can easily assemble the holder and thereafter can use the holder for the storage of discs, the holders can be a good and inexpensive media for printed messages. As the holder is used for the storage of discs, the printed messages on the holder will be able to be read by the receiver for a long period of time.
Additionally, according to the invention, the holder consists of 2 parts, a column and a base, where the column has punching for the slots and fastening flaps for the base. Hereby one obtains the advantage that the discs have the possibility of being optimally placed in the holder and at the same time a good stability is achieved.
Furthermore, according to the invention, the holder, in an assembled state, consists of a column that is an angled part, where one end of the angled column is fitted with a flap for each side of the angle which are fastened to the base. Hereby one obtains the advantage that the discs column in an assembled state, is secured in a stiffened construction that makes the holder stabile and with good bearing capacity.
Moreover, according to the invention, the slots go diagonally or horizontally into the column preferentially of equal length into the two sides of the angle. Hereby one obtains the advantage that all the discs lie stabile and the discs back edge (where text is often written) can be read unhindered, without having to place ones head sideways.
Likewise according to the invention, the slots are parallel to each other. Hereby one obtains the advantage that all the discs upon removallinsertion do not get in the way of each other.
In addition according to the invention, the flat material before e.g., punching or cutting out, have printed information in one or more colours. Hereby one obtains the advantage that the invention can be used as media for printed messages.
Further according to the invention, it can be punched or cut out of flat material e.g.
cardboard, carton or a similar sheet material. Hereby one obtains a low price for materials and a simple production procedure which is instrumental in making the product inexpensive to produce.
Additionally according to the invention, the holder in an unassembled state can, as a flat construction, without difficulties be placed in a flat standard envelope.
The invention is further explained below with reference to the drawings where:
fig. 1 shows an unassembled holders column according to the invention,
fig. 2 shows an unassembled holders base according to the invention,
fig. 3 shows an unassembled holder according to the invention, being
placed in an envelope,
fig. 4 shown in perspective, shows an assembled holder according to the
invention,
fig. 5 shown sideways, shows an assembled holder according to the
invention,
fig. 6 shows an other embodiment of the invention where the slots are
horizontal
fig. 7 shows an other embodiment of the invention where some of the slots
are diagonal and parallel to each other and others are vertical and parallel
to each other,
fig. 8 shows an other embodiment of the invention where the slots are wider
so several discs can be placed in each slot.
The holder for discs that is shown in figures 1-5 consists of, in an unassembled state, of 2 punched parts. The first part is a column (1). The second part is a base (4). The column (1) has a length (I) and width (w) which are slightly less than the measurements of a standard envelope so it can easily glide into an envelope (figure 3). The bases length and width are less than the columns width (w) and therefore can also easily be in the envelope. The column (1) has a number of punched slots (8) along the middle. The columns length and width, in a flat state, are dependent on that the slots (8) have a downward diagonal angle, where in which the column (1) does not need to be so wide as it would have been if the slots were horizontal.
In addition the diagonal angle helps to hold the discs so that they do not slide out.
Along the middle from top to bottom, the column has a fold line so that it is easier to bend the two angled parts (7',7"). The bottom part of the column is cut along the middle so that two flaps appear (3',3"). There where the cutting starts in the column, a perpendicular folding line goes along both sides of the column. This folding line makes folding of the flaps easier. The unassembled holder consists also of a punched base (4), which in size corresponds to the 2 flaps. (3',3") where in between there is an isosceles triangle with lengths that answer to each of the columns sides. On each of the bases two sides there is mounted double adhesive tape (5',5").
The holder obtains its function by assembling the column (1) with the base (4). The columns long sides (2',2") are folded backward along the dotted line until a 60 degree angle is obtained between these sides. This causes the columns side of the angle to be so far apart from each other so that the discs will lie stably in the slots.
The flaps (3',3") are folded forward along the dotted line. The paper tabs of the double adhesive tape (5',5") are removed from the base (4). Thereafter the underside of the columns flaps (3',3") are placed on the bases sides so the sides are covered. By using double adhesive tape, the column and base remain stuck together so that the holder stands totally firm and plane on a table.
Figure 5-7 show other alternative embodiments of the columns slots.
Claims (8)

Holder for storage of flat objects especially discs that are used for computer use e.g. floppy discs or compact discs, characterized in that the holder is formed by one or more punched flat parts which can have printed information other than about the holder or its use, which parts have the dimensions and choice of material adjusted to mailing in a standard envelope, and which parts form a self bearing construction, consisting of a base and an upright part fitted with slots for the placement of floppy discs or compact discs, where each slot has contact face and contact edge formed by punching and folding of the upright part and the information can appear as a whole.
2. Holder according to claim 1 characterized in that it consists of 2 parts, a column (1) and a base (4), where the column has punching for the slots (8) and flaps (3',3") to secure the base.
3. Holder according to claim 1 characterized in that in assembled form, the holder consists of a column with a base (6) where the column is folded to an angled part where the angles one end is fitted with a flap (3',3") on each side of the angle by which each flap is folded and secured to the base (4).
4. Holder according to claim 1 characterized in that the slots (8) go diagonally or horizontally into the column preferentially of the same length into the two sides of the angle.
5. Holder according to claim 1 characterized in that the slots (8) are parallel to each other.
