Abstract

A building block spacer 10 comprises an extruded plastics channel-sectioned member which allows mortar to enter into it. <IMAGE>

Description

BUILDING BLOCK SPACER This invention relates to a building block spacing device.
When building walls using heavyweight concrete blocks the sheer weight causes the cement to be squashed out between the blocks, if too many courses are laid before the cement has set. This slows down the building process significantly.
According to the present invention there is provided a block separating device of normal block joint thickness, which comes in a strip, which enables the spacer to be cut to any desired length. The strip when pushed into the mortar joint allows the mortar to spread up into it to provide a good key with the next block to be laid. The separating block will not crush under the weight of the blocks above: The strips come in thickness to suit each block thickness.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of exarnple with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows in isometric some segments of the block separating device ready to be pushed into the mortar.
Figure 2 Shows a section through the wall with the separating device in position; and Figure 3 Shows the block separating device as a long strip.
Referring to the drawing the block spacing device comprising of a spacer 10 which allows mortar to pass into it. The spacer can be cut off to the desired length. The spacer will support the block courses laid above it. The spacer width is appropriate to the block width.

Claims (3)

1 A block spacing device comprising of a spacer which allows mortar to pass into it. The spacer can be cut off to the desired length. The spacer will support the block courses laid above it. The spacer width is appropriate to the block width.
2 A block spacing device as claimed in claim 1. wherein the spacer is manufactured as a plastic extrusion in the form of a U-shape.
3 A block spacing device as claimed in claim 2. wherein the spacer can be cut off to any pre-determined distance.
