Abstract
227,541. Black, H. D. Oct. 22, 1923. Motor mechanism; coin action, Weight and multiple-coin. - In coinfreed delivery or amusement machines of the kind in which the actuating movement is effected by a spring motor, wound by mechanism actuated by a lever moved through a predetermined arc, the said mechanism being released after the insertion of a coin or coins into the machine and prior to the functioning of the latter, the spring motor b, Fig. 4, is wound after prepayment by turning through a predetermined are a lever handle. on a shaft k which has an arm h permanently connected by a link j to an arm e provided with a driving pawl f engaging a ratchet wheel f<1> on the winding shaft b<4> of the motor. The arm h is normally blocked by a detent n pressed by a spring n<2> against an extension o of the arm. A coin ineerted through a shoot p tilts by weight a lever g which in turn depresses an escapement lever r having two teeth r<2>, r<3>, the tooth r<3> engaging a tooth s on a segmental plate s<1> carried by a wheel c<2> rotatable, by the motor. This allows a slight movement of the wheel c<2> so that a pin t thereon engages a cam surface n<3> on the detent n, rocking this to free the arm h, the pin t then engaging a notch n<s> in the detent to prevent further rotation of the wheel c<2> until the motor is wound. The arm h has a double ratchet toothed rack u, u<1> engaged by a double pawl v, v<1> to ensure a complete upward and downward stroke of the winding handle, the return to normal position of the arm h being effected by a weight. When the arm h returns to normal position, the detent n is moved by its spring n<2> to its blocking position, thus freeing the pin and allowing the wheel c<2> to complete its rotation to actuate the delivery or other mechanism. The speed of the wheel c" is controlled by a fly c<1>. The lever r is positively engaged with the tooth s by a. cam surface s<2> on the plate s<1> coacting with the tooth r<2>. Where more than one coin is required to free the machine, the segmental plate s<1> has an additional tooth s<2>, Fig. 7, for each additional coin. The first coin disengages the lever r from the tooth s and the subsequent coin disengages it from the tooth s<3>, engagement with which is ensured by a cam surface s<4> coacting with the tooth r<2>.
