Abstract
227,479. Zulver, E. July 17, 1923. Spray and pulverulent-fuel burners. -A liquid-fuel burner comprises an oil supply pipe a through which extends longitudinally a rotary spindle b, provided with bla.des b<1> beyond the outlet of the tube, and an air supply pipe d, fitted with a regulator d<4> and internal cones i, j and preferably tapered towards the outlet end. The spindle b, which may be provided with additional blades or the like within the tube a, is mounted in ball, or roller, bearings c, d<1> and driven by an electric motor e, which also drives a fan f for supplying the air, which is heated preferably by passing the supply pipe through a casing in the furnace front. The outlet end of the air supply pipe d may be provided with a flared nozzle d<3> and surrounded by air cones g for admitting additional air to the furnace from a heating space h. The outlet end of the tube a may be flared outwardly or contracted. The oil is supplied by pressure or gravity from a tank, in which it is heated approximately to its flash point preferably by means of steam coils. Additional air or pulverulent fuel may be supplied by induction through an inlet k for mixing with the oil, or pulverulent fuel alone may be employed, air or steam being supplied through the pipe a instead of oil. The burner may be fitted to a fire door of the Howden type and arranged to work with forced or natural draught. A steam or air supply connection may be fitted to clear the pipe a or assist atomization of the fuel.
