Abstract

A pre-formed anti-burglar flashing 6 comprises either a one-piece non-adjustable metal plate or a two-piece adjustable, flashing (15, 16, Fig B). The flashing is fixed with one-way clutch head screws (12) and washers (11), and encased with plastic dome head screw covers (13) and holding washers (10). The flashings (6, 15 and 16) are fixed to the door frame (5) head soffit so as to cover the gap (3) between the top of the door (4) and the frame (5) to prevent an implement being inserted into the gap (3) to manipulate the locking pin mechanism (1). <IMAGE>

Description

DESCRIPTION PRE-FORMED ANTI-BURGLAR FLASHING FOR UP AND OVER GARAGE TYPE DOORS This invention relates to a pre-formed flashing comprising 1. Type A, one-piece non-adjustable flashing.
2. Type B, two piece adjustable flashing.
The invention is an attempt to provide within a modest cost range an effective means of reducing the ever increasing number of break-ins to domestic garages and similar buildings that are taking place nowadays. It is particularly prevalent where top centre or end locking up and over doors have been fitted.
The method of break-in is very simple and takes less than one minute using a normal size flat bladed screwdriver or similar implement. The top locking pin is disengaged by simply inserting the screwdriver into the small gap over the top of the door next to the pin and pulling down. The door is then swung open in the normal way.
The flashings can be manufactued from any suitable rigid material eg carbon steel, stainless steel etc, with either a self or applied finish and can be fixed with wood screws, self tapping screws or bolts etc. to either wood, metal or, brickwork etc.
The flashings prevent implements being inserted into the gap over the top of the door to manipulate the locking-pin mechanism and effecting unauthorised entry.
Flashing Type A is manufactured to suit a one-off situation for a particular soffit width, whereas Type B is manufactured to suit a variety of soffit widths.
A specific embodyment of the invention will now be described using wood screw fixings by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Drawing 1/4 shows in section the general fixing arrangement of the flashings in relation to the door and frame over.
Drawing 214 shows flashing Type A in section and isometric form together with a wood screw method of fixing.
Drawing 314 shows flashing Type B in section and isometric form together with a wood screw method of fixing.
Drawing 414 shows a frontal elevation of the door assembly with the flashings in position over the top of the door.
Flashing Type B comprises two 'L' shaped sections (15 and 16) with welted edges (8) for added strength and stiffness, with pre-punched slotted fixing holes at appropriate centres (14).
The flashings are fixed over the top of the door (4) to the timber door frame head (5) to cover the gap (3) by means of one-way clutch head screws (12) and washers (11), and are finally encased with plastic dome head screw covers (13) and holding washers (10) so as to prevent access to the locking pin (1) and the retaining angle (2).

Claims (5)

1. A pre-formed flashing comprising Type A and Type B to prevent break-ins to top centre or end locking up and over garage type doors.
2. Both types of flashing as claimed in Claim 1 are fixed so as to cover the gap between the top of the door and the frame to prevent an implement being inserted into the gap to manipulate the locking-pin mechanism and effecting unauthorised entry.
3. Flashing Type A as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 is a one-piece nonadjustable flashing wherein it is fixed to the door frame head soffit in one-off situations to suit a particular door frame head soffit width.
4. Flashing Type B as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 is a two-piece adjustable flashing wherein it is fixed to the door frame head soffit in situations to suit a variety of soffit widths.
5. A pre-formed flashing comprising two types A and B substantially as described herein with reference to numbers 1-17 of the accompanying drawings 114,214,314 and 4/4.
