Abstract

A method of molding an interior finishing material of cardboard which consists of a substrate of cardboard molded to a predetermined shape, and a decorative outer surface material pasted on one surface of the substrate, and which is used an interior finishing material for the ceiling of an automobile. A flat cardboard substrate obtained by pasting liners on both sides of a corrugated core via films of a thermoplastic resin is first thermally pressure-molded by a hot press at such a high temperature that permits heat, the temperature of which is high enough to melt a heat-fusable bonding agent, to remain on the surface of the cardboard substrate after the cardboard substrate has finished being molded and taken out of the hot press, and that does not cause the cardboard constituting the substrate to he burnt during the molding thereof. This molded cardboard substrate is then taken out of the hot press and transferred to a mold in a cold press, and a decorative surface material is superposed thereon via a heat-fusable bonding agent, the substrate and surface material being brought into close contact with each other by the cold press. The bonding agent is melted by utilizing the remaining heat of the cardboard substrate to bond the substrate and surface material to each other. During this decorative surface material bonding step, the thermoplastic resin between the core of the cardboard substrate and liners is solidified to fix the shape thereof so that springing back does not occur. <IMAGE>
