Description

FIELD OF INVENTION The present invention relates to electrical fittings.
More particularly, the invention relates to electrical fittings for fitting to outside comers of walls.
BACKGROUND TO INVENTION Conventionally two separate electrical fittings are provided on outside wall comers, one on one outside wall forming the comer and the other on the other adjoining outside wall forming the corner of a building. Such fittings are used in particular for illumination of the walls of the building.
It is an object of the invention to suggest an electrical fitting which can be attached against the comer of a building so that a single fitting is sufficient.
SUMMARY OF INVENTION According to the invention, an electrical fitting for fitting to an outside comer of a building includes a body having opposite walls1 each wall having a triangular recess defined by two edges for respectively abutting against two meeting walls of an outside corner of a building; and electrical connections associated with the body for electrically fitting at least one electrical appliance, such as a light, to the body.
The body may be of rectangular shape in front view.
The end walls of the body may be rectangular in end view, each end wall having a triangular recess.
A removable lid may be provided for covering the electrical connections.
The body may be hollow.
The body may be made of suitable plastics material.
The body may have opposite side walls, two opposite end walls, each end wall having a triangular recess defined by two relatively inclined edges, and two base walls extending between the respective inclined edges of the end walls.
An angle of about 900 may be formed between the two inclined edges of each end wall.
The body may have a number of screw fittings for receiving screws.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS The invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying schematic drawings.
In the drawings there is shown in: FIGURE 1 an end view of a first embodiment of an electrical fitting in accordance with the invention; FIGURE 2 a front view of the electrical fitting as seen along arrow II in Figure 1; FIGURE 3 a rear view of the electrical fitting as seen along arrow lil in Figure 1; FIGURE 4 an end view of a second embodiment of an electrical fitting in accordance with the invention, which fitting is provided with a removable lid; FIGURE 5 a side view of the electrical fitting as seen along arrow V in Figure 4; FIGURE 6 a front view of a third embodiment of an electrical fitting in accordance with the invention, showing the fitting with its lid removed; FIGURE 7 a side view as seen along arrow VII in Figure 6;; FIGURE 8 an end view as seen along arrow Vlil in Figure 6 but with the lid in position; FIGURE 9 a sectional end view as seen along arrows IX - IX in Figure 6 but with the lid removed; FIGURE 10 a front view of the lid as seen along arrow X in Figure 8; and FIGURE Ii on a slightly larger scale, an end view similar to Figure 8 but with a light bulb and cover fitted thereto.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS Referring to Figures 1 to 3 of the drawings, the electrical fitting, generally indicated by reference numeral 10, includes a hollow body 12 having side walls 14, 16, a front wall 18, and end walls 20, 22. The body is open from the side opposite to the front wall 18. The end walls 20, 22 each have a Vshaped cut out or formation defined by the edges 24, 26. (Only the one end wall 20 is shown in Figure 1 but the opposite end wall 22 has similar edges).
In use, the edges 24, 26 of each end wall 20, 22 abut against the corner walls 28, 30 of a building 32 when fitted to such a building 32. The side walls 14, 16 furthermore have blocks 34, 36 and 38, 40 in which holes 42, 44, 46, 48 are provided for receiving screws for fitting the body 12 to a comer of a building.
In the body 12 electrical connections, joined to the electrical conduit system inside the building (details of which are not shown), are provided.
Such an electrical connection may be provided as a socket 42.
On the front wall 18 an electrical appliance such as a lamp may be fitted1 which then is electrically joined to the electrical connection (details of which are not shown).
Although the body 12 is rectangular in shape seen in front view (Figures 2 and 3), it also may be circular if for instance, a spherical light cover is to be fitted thereto.
In Figures 4 and 5 a second embodiment of an electrical fitting is shown.
The electrical fitting 44 has a body 46 with side walls 48, 50, end walls 52, 54 and base walls 56, 58 extending between the edges 60, 62 of the end walls 52, 54. In this case the body 46 therefore is open at the side indicated by reference numeral 64 opposite to the base wall 56, 58.
The electrical fitting 44 is shown in Figure 4 to fit against the comer walls 68, 70 of a building 72 in that the base walls 56, 58 abut against the corner walls 68, 70 respectively.
Referring to Figures 6 - 10 a third embodiment of an electrical fitting is shown.
The electrical fitting 74 includes a hollow body 76, which has side walls 78, 80, end walls 82, 84 and base walls 86, 88 extending between the edges 90, 92 and 94, 96 of the end walls 82, 84 respectively.
When fitted as shown in Figure 8 and Figure 11, the base walls 86, 88 abut against the corner walls 98, 100 of a building 102 respectively.
In the base walls 86, 88 various electrical connections or connection formations are provided. These include the following: a) holes 104,106,108,110,112, 114 for fitting the body 76 to the corner walls 98,100 of a building 102; b) screw threaded posts 116,118 for mounting a socket; c) screw threaded posts 120, 122 for mounting a light ballast; d) screw threaded posts 124, 126 for fitting light lenses; e) screw threaded posts 128, 130 included in a cylinder 132 for fitting a standard type of light fitting (i.e. with inner plate removed); f) a knock out disc plate 134 to define a hole for receiving an electrical pipe conduit; g) screw threaded lugs 136,138 for removably fitting a lid plate 140.
A light appliance may be screwed onto the lid plate 140 as shown in Figure 11.
Referring to Figure 10 the lid plate 140 has two holes 142, 144 which are in alignment with the screw threaded lugs 136, 138 for removably fitting the lid plate 140 to the body 76. The lid plate 140 furthermore has a cover 146 which is attached by way of screws to the posts 128, 130 after the lid plate 140 has been fitted to the body 74. This cover disc 146 is removed when required to reach the interior of the body 74 for fitting electrical connections.
The screw threaded posts 116, 118, 120, 122, 124, 126, 128, 130 have threaded brass inserts for receiving screws.
Figure 11 shows how the electrical fitting 74 is attached to the corner walls 98, 100 of a building 102 and on which fitting a light unit 148 including a light base 150, a light bulb or tube 152 with a translucent lens cover 154 is provided. The fitting of the bulb or tube 152 is perforrned after the lid plate 140 (see Fig. 10) has been removed and the light base 150 has been fitted to posts 116,118.
When in this position the light 152 will illuminate both corner wails 98, 100 defining the corner of the t; ining 102.
The light fittings illustrated in the drawings preferably are injection moulded by using suitable plastics material.
Therefore, in accordance with the invention, a light fitting is provided which can be attached to a corner of a building and which fulfils the task of two separate light fittings in conventional manner attached on each of the side walls of a comer of a building. Thereby considerable savings in costs of producing the light fittings and labour in attaching such light fittings are achieved.
