Abstract

A golf ball washer comprises a drum 4 which is releasably secured to the wheel 2 of a golf trolley or kart and has a ball entry aperture in the front plate 8. Golf balls to be cleaned are placed in the drum along with an amount of water or cleaning fluid. Once the golf trolley is in motion the rotating movement of the drum 1 throws the balls within, against built in agitation strips and cleaning pads thus cleaning the balls. <IMAGE>

Description

(PANEL A) GOLF TROLLEY/KART WHEEL MOUNTED, AUTOMATIC GOLF BALL WASHER/CLEANER This invention relates to a golf trolley/kart wheel1 mounted automatic golf ball washer/cleaner.
Golf ball washer/cleaners are well known and in the main, are manually operated or wiping devices which can be attached to the frame of a trolley/kart, or mounted on poles adjacent to the tee positions on a golf course. These forms of golf ball cleaners tend to be both time consuming and dirty.
According to the present invention there is provided a detachable, automatic, wheel mounted golf ball washer. This is comprised of a body in the form of a drum, with means of releasably securing the drum to the wheel of a golf trolley/kart. The drum has built in agitating strips and internally, is entirely lined with cleaning pads.
When water or cleaning fluid is introduced to the drum and the wheel set in motion, the rotating movement of the wheel cleans the balls.
The specific embodiment ofthe invention will now be described by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective, the golf trolley/kart wheel with the ball washer in position.
Figure 2 shows an exploded view of the relevant components which together form the golf trolley/kart wheel mounted, automatic ball washer.
Figure 3 shows a plan view illustrating the~built in agitators.
(PANEL B) Referring to the drawing Fig.2, the wheel mounted ball washer comprises a fixing pattress 3 (with moulded fixing lugs, not shown) which is permanently attached to the wheel 2 by way of self tapping screws or similar means.
The internal diameter of the fixing pattress 3, should be suitably greater than the external diameter of the base of the drum 4, enabling the drum 4 to be inserted into the pattress 3 and by way of a t turn locking mechanism, which is an integral part of the moulded drum 4 and pattress 3 (not shown), be locked into position.
The drum 4 is cylindrical in shape, with a moulded, concave base, enabling the drum 4 to fit convex shaped wheels covering hub dust caps, as shown on the cross sectional drawing of the wheel 2, Fig2.
The front of the drum 4, is fitted (by means of machine screws or similar), a detachable front plate 8, with ball entry opening in the centre. Between the drum 4 and the front plate 8, is fitted a rubber gasket 6. The ball opening in the centre of the front plate 8 is fitted with a detachable lid 9, which is fixed by means of a t turn locking mechanism or similar, which is an integral moulded part of the front plate 8 and lid 9.
The complete inside surfaces of the drum 4 and front plate 8 are lined with cleaning pads 5 and 7, as shown in Fig.2.
Moulded into the wall of the drum 4 are a number of agitating strips1 as shown in Fig.3.10.
Once the unit has been completely assembled and attached to the trolley/ kart wheel, an amount of water or cleaning fluid is poured into the drum via the ball entry hole, in the front plate. The balls to be cleaned are then placed in the drum and the front plate lid locked in position.
The ball washer is then ready for use.
When the golf trolley/kart is in motion, the revolving movement rotates the golf balls within, which hit the built in agitators. The action of the revolving golf balls being agitated against the cleaning pads, cleans the balls.

Claims (8)

  1. (PANEL C)
CLAIMS 1. A detachable, automatic, wheel mounted ball washer. This is comprised of a body in the form of a drum with means of releasably securing the drum to the wheel of a golf trolley/kart. The drum has built in agitating strips and internally, is entirely lined with cleaning pads. When water or cleaning fluid is introduced to the drum and the wheel set in motion, the rotating movement of the wheel will clean the balls.
  2. 2. A wheel mounted ball washer, as claimed in Claim 1, wherein means are provided for releasably securing the ball washer to the wheel.
  3. 3. A wheel mounted ball washer, as claimed in Claim 1 subject to the wheel revolving is an automatic washer/cleaner.
  4. 4. A wheel mounted ball washer, as claimed in Claim 1 has built in agitating strips and cleaning pads, which cleanse the ball whilst the wheel is in motion.
  5. 5. A wheel mounted ball washer, as claimed in Claim 1 will cleanse one or more balls simultaneously.
  6. 6. A wheel mounted ball washer, as claimed in Claim 1 is detachable from the wheel for the purpose of cleaning, servicing or replacing the cleaning pads.
  7. 7. A wheel mounted ball washer, as claimed in Claim 1 is so designed as to be capable of being fitted to most golf trolley/kart wheels.
