Abstract

An embossing kit comprises a support (14) for a workpiece, and a diffuser hood (4) suitable for attachment to a hairdryer (6). The kit is used for heating a workpiece, to cause thermographic powder on the workpiece to react and provide a raised embossed appearance. The powder sticks to artwork, printing, writing, or stencilling previously applied to the workpiece. The support has a reflective upper surface, which may be aluminized, and can carry struts for holding the hood above the support. <IMAGE>

Description

THE EMBOSSINATOR AND D'FUSER To. . UTILIZED IN CONNEXION WITH THE. COMMONPLACE.. HOUSEHOLD HAIRDRYER.
This invention relates to the Embossinator and D'fuser to be used in connexion with a commonplace household hairdryer and thermographic powders in the craft of home/commercial embossing.
Embossing with thermographic powders is extremely well understood in the print world, and is a very expensive process. The process is used by printers all over the world. The machinery employed for thermographic printing are very costly. Until now it has been virtually impossible to emboss using thermographic powders as a craft in a typical household. Certain techniques have been tried to cure the thermographic powders, but all have proved to be very hazardous. The techniques used are, heating the powder over an electric toaster, electric light bulb, using electric paint strippers, heat guns, candles, cigarette lighters, and the like.
According to the present invention there is provided a specially manufactured reticulated fire retardant fine pore sponge pad, or pad of any like means, hereafter to be called the "EMBOSSINATOR".
The Embossinator Figure 1 to have a polyester film with a aluminised reflective covering, or reflective surface of any like means, laminated to one or more than one of the surfaces.
The gauge of the aluminised reflective surface to be of 12, 19 or 23 microns in depth, or any like gauge of microns. The shape, an oblong of 170mm x 130mm, in depth to be 18mm. The shape of the Embossinator can be manufactured, round, square, or any shape, size, diameter, or depth. The reflective surface to be silver in colour, or colour of any like means. The colour of the sponge pad to be pink, lemon, or colour of any like means. dye Embossinator can be housed in cardboard, plastic, or any like means, or placed in a coloured sponge surround, or coloured surround of any like means.
According to the present invention there is also provided a specially manufactured heat reflective reticulated fire retardant foam diffuser, or diffuser of any like means, hereafter to be called the " D'Fuser " Figure 2 . The construction of the nose of the D' fuser' 5 to be that of an arrow head Figure 2 pointed at one end, or construction of any like means. The construction of the barrel to be that of an oblong sleeve open at one end, or any like shape, with either an elastic strip or any like means sewn over the open end of the sleeve, Figure 2 number 5, enabling the D'Fuser to fit neatly over the barrel of any household hairdryer.
The perimeters of the D'fuser stitched with fire retardant thread.
A further line of extra stitching as Figure 3 number 2 to be sewn on both sides of the D'fuser nose, a particularly designed die cut section of fire retardant fabric Figure 4. hereby known as the Heat Reflective Housing. The Heat Reflective Housing to have air vents Figure 4 number 3, and attached to the D'fuser by means of sewing thread, Velcro, or any like means Figure 2 number 2 men thread, or Velcro used in the assembly of the D'fuser to be self coloured, or coloured Velcro, or thread or Velcro of any like means.
A special embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 Shows the perspective of the EMBOSSINATOR.
Figure 2 Shows the perspective of the D'FUSER.
Figure 3 Illustrates the extra line of stitching.
Figure 4 Illustrates the Heat Reflective Housing sewn to the nose of the D'fuser.
Figure 5 Illustrates the D'fuser attached to the barrel a common place household hairdryer.
Figure 6 Shows the stance in which the hairdryer with the D'fuser attachment is held over the Ebbossinator.
Figure 7 Drawing of Embossinator with detachable struts.
Figure 8 Illustrates the adjustable struts between the Embossinator and D'fuser.
Referring to the drawing of the Embossinator Figure 1 which comprises of a heat resistant fire retardant sponge pad 14 laminated with a polyester aluminised reflective film surface 13, the foam pad 14 to have heat retention characteristics, that does not assign the heat to pass through, but reflects the heat upwards. The Embossinator to be housed in a receptical Figure 7 number 15 of any shape, or size. The receptical constructed from sponge, cardboard, plastic, wood, or any like means. The Embossinator to have adjustable struts Figure 7 number 10 fabricated from plastic, wood, metal, or any like means. The struts to be detachable for easy transportation. The fixing of the struts to the Embossinator and D' fuser Figure 7 number 9 by means of press studs, Velcro, or any like means.
Referring to the drawing of the D'fuser Figure 2 which comprises of a fire retardant reticulated foam sleeve number 4 with the special Heat Reflective Housing attachment number 1.
The D'fuser Figure 2 is assembled from fire retardant reticulated foam with the Heat Reflective Housing number 1 attachment of fire retardant reflective fabric. The aerodynamic form of the arrow head with the extra row of stitching Figure 3 number 2 assigns the hot air from the barrel of the hairdryer to flow smoothy through without causing the declared barrel of the hairdryer to overheat. The majority of hairdryers produced have a cutout mechanism installed, so that if the hairdryer should overheat it will immediately cutout. The aerodynamic form of the D'fuser Figure 2 rules out the activity of overheating developing.
Referring to the drawing of the Heat Reflective Housing, Figure 4 with a panel on one side with air vents number 3. The Heat Reflective Housing to have on the reverse side number7 attachments so that it can be attached to the D'fuser by means of stitching , Velcro, or any like means, thus making it accessible for easy cleaning. The centre section of the D'fuser to be left uncovered by the Reflective Housing to allow heated air to be disbursed by the stitches, or welds through the D'fuser. The reticulated foam sleeve Figure 3 number 4 and the Heat Reflective Housing Figure 4 to be made so that it is detachable for easy cleaning.
Referring to the drawing of the hairdryer with the D'fuser attachment Figure 6 numbers 4 and 6 held over the Embossinator number 14. Whereby any paper, card, or any like means, where the artwork, drawing, or writings with a dusting of thermographic powder is placed so that the act of embossing is established by the direct heat from the hairdryer number 6 which passes through the D'fuser number 4. The D'fuser used in combination with the Embossinator is an essential part for the action for the method of embossing using thermographic powders. Hot air is disbursed from the hairdryer number 6 through to the D'fuser number 4 then expended over the thermographic powders on either paper, card, or any like means, to the reflective surface of the Embossinator number 14. The heat then reflects back and allows the powders to cure (action of embossing). This method can also be used for the curing of liquid applique.
