Description

A FITTING FOR A LEAF OF A DOOR. A WINDOW. OR A LIKE MEMBER The invention relates to a fitting for a leaf of a door, a window, or a like member, which is movable relative to a fixed frame structure between a closed position and an open position.
The invention has particular though not exclusive application to a displaceable leaf which can be tilted relative to the fixed frame structure and placed in a parallel position, having a linkage on the movable leaf, the linkage being able to be actuated in the sense of a longitudinal displacement by means of a handle, one rod of which linkage extends at least over regions of a bottom beam of the leaf, having at least one bolt member which is fixed stationarily to the rod and which projects towards a bottom beam of the fixed frame structure, and having at least one stationary closure member on the bottom beam of the fixed frame structure which cooperates with the bolt member in at least two operating positions determined by longitudinal displacements of the rod, wherein provided on the bottom leaf beam on a cover which holds the rod in a groove of the leaf beam is a journal which is provided with a head of increased width, the journal being able to be introduced into a substantially T-shaped groove of a holder provided on the bottom beam of the fixed frame structure.
With such a fitting for a leaf of a door, a window, or a like member, the leaf can be bolted in the closed position. To this end, a linkage is provided in the outer edge of the leaf, which linkage is longitudinally displaceable by means of a handle and has a plurality of bolt members which sit in a stationary position on the linkage and which cooperate with closure members provided on the fixed frame structure. These bolt members which cooperate with the closure members can also be provided on the bottom beam of the leaf and of the fixed frame structure. Provided on the bottom leaf beam is at least one journal provided with a head of increased width on a cover which holds the rod in a groove of the leaf beam. When the beam is in the closed position and in the tilted position, the head of increased width of the journal engages, with some clearance, in the region of increased width of the T-shaped groove, so that when the movable leaf is in the tilted position, it can only be lifted within the clearance. The movable leaf is therefore prevented from coming out of the tilted position, and so it is not possible for an unauthorised person to move it from the tilted position into the open position.
As already mentioned, the head of increased width of the journal engages, with slight clearance, into the T-shaped groove, so that manufacture and assembly can take place with only slight tolerances, with the result that the head of increased width of the journal is always reliably introduced into the T-shaped groove of the holder when the leaf is moved from the open position into the tilted position or into the closed position with its journal. In many instances, however, the leaf and the fixed frame structure are wooden which can warp giving rise to problems again and again because when the leaf is moved from the open position into the tilted- or closed position, the journal provided with the head of increased width does not always accurately engage in the T-shaped groove of the holder.
According to the invention there is provided a fitting for a leaf of a door, a window, or a like member, movable relative to a fixed frame structure between a closed position and an open position, having a linkage on the movable leaf, the linkage being able to be actuated in the sense of a longitudinal displacement by means of a handle, one rod of which linkage extends at least over regions of a bottom beam of the leaf, having a bolt member which is fixed stationarily to the rod and which projects towards the bottom beam of the fixed frame structure, and having a stationary closure member on a bottom beam of the fixed frame structure which cooperates with the bolt member in at least two operating positions determined by longitudinal displacements of the rod, in which a journal is provided on the bottom leaf beam on a cover which holds the rod in a groove of the leaf beam, the journal is provided with a head of increased width, can be introduced into a substantially T-shaped groove of a holder provided on the bottom beam of the fixed frame structure, and is held to the cover in a manner such that it is displaceable to a limited degree in the direction of the longitudinal extent of the bottom leaf beam.
This is a simple way of ensuring that the journal provided with the head of increased width is able to move to a limited extent transversely to the T-shaped groove in the holder, so that the journal provided with the head of increased width always freely engages in the T-shaped groove in the holder even in the presence of high manufacturing and assembly tolerances, and even if the leaf and fixed frame structure become warped.
The journal provided with the head of increased width can be displaceable to a limited extent in an elongate slot in the cover. By virtue of the arrangement of the journal provided with the head of increased width in an elongate slot in the cover, it is easy for the journal provided with the head of increased width to be displaceable to a limited extent.
An offset end of the journal provided with the head of increased width is able to pass through the elongate slot in the cover and can have a riveted disc at its free end. This is a simple way of ensuring that the journal provided with the head of increased width is held on the cover, and can be displaced to a limited degree in the longitudinal extent of the cover.
The holder which has the T-shaped groove for receiving the head of increased width of the journal can be formed by an end of the closure member. This is an easy way of simplifying manufacture and assembly, since the holder which has the T-shaped groove forms the closure member which is required anyway and is able to be assembled with it.
The invention is diagrammatically illustrated by way of example in teh accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is the front view of a door provided with a fitting according to the invention, with a leaf and a fixed frame structure; Figure 2 is a section taken on line II - II in Figure 1; Figure 3 is a section taken on line III - III in Figure 2; Figure 4 is a plan view of a cover which covers over the linkage; Figure 5 is a sectional view, corresponding to Figure 3, with a displaced leaf; and Figure 6 is another plan view of the cover which covers over the linkage, with a displaced leaf.
Referring to the drawings and firstly to Figure 1, a fitting is provided to enable a leaf 10 to be moved to various positions, denoted A,B,D and F, relative to a stationary fixed frame structure 11. In the present case, the leaf 10 is a door which can first of all be disposed against the fixed frame structure 11 in a closed position A which is indicated by fine lines in Figure 1. Positioning arms 12, associated with the fitting and indicated by broken lines in Figure 1, can be used to move the leaf 10 into a tilted position B shown by broken lines, in the direction of arrow 13 indicating tilting movement and marked by a broken line, about a bottom beam 24 of the fixed frame structure 11, into a first open position. In addition, the leaf 10 can be brought into a second open, parallel placement position D which is illustrated by a solid line in Figure 1, aided additionally by the positioning arms 12 and also by support arms 14 of the fitment. This positioning movement is marked by arrows 35 in Figure 1. The arms 12, 14 are disposed on runners 36 which rest on an upper or lower carrier rail 37 by sliding guides or roller guides. Along these rails 37 it is possible to move to a open position D, in the direction of arrow 38 showing pushing movement in Figure 1, and to move into a pushed open position F illustrated by broken lines which characterises a third open position of the leaf 10. In the pushed open position F, the opening of the fixed frame structure 11 is completely uncovered, since the leaf 10 is in a parallel position.
The leaf 10 is provided with an actuating handle 39 by means of which a linkage is able to be actuated which is provided on an outer edge 15 of the leaf 10. Of this linkage, a rod 16 is shown in Figure 2 which is inserted into a groove 17 in a bottom leaf beam 18. The rod 16 which is inserted in the groove 17 is covered over by a cover 19.
As can be seen particularly well in Figures 3 and 5, a bolt member 20 is provided stationarily on the rod 16, which bolt member 20 projects from the cover 19 through an elongate slot 21 therein. The bolt member 20 cooperates with a rib 22 of a closure member 23 which is fixed to the bottom beam 24 of the fixed frame structure 23. By displacing the rod 16 by means of the actuating handle 39, the bolt member 20 is engaged behind the rib 22 of the closure member 23 in the closed position, so that the leaf 10 is prevented from opening. To open the leaf 10, the bolt member 20 has to be displaced laterally using the rod 16, so that the bolt member 20 is released from the rib 22 of the closure member 23.
Provided on the lower leaf beam 18 on the cover 19 is a journal 26 provided with a head 25 of increased width, which journal 26 engages in a substantially T-shaped groove 27 of a holder 28, the holder 28 being provided integral with the closure member 23. As can be seen in particular in Figures 3 and 5, the head 25 of increased width of the journal 26 engages in the region of increased width 29 of the T-shaped groove 27, so that when the leaf 10 is raised, the head 25 of increased width of the journal 26 rests against the mutually facing edge ribs 30 of the T-shaped groove 27. This is particularly important for the tilted position B of the leaf 10, since the leaf 10 cannot be lifted away from the bottom beam 24 of the fixed frame structure 11 and the leaf 10 can be moved into an open position.
The journal 26 provided with the head 25 of increased width is displaceable to a limited degree in the direction of the longitudinal extent of the bottom leaf beam 18, in an elongate slot 32 in the cover 19. An offset end 33 of the journal 26 which is provided with the head 25 of increased width engages in the elongate slot 32 in the cover 19 and has a riveted disc 34 at its free end. This is a simple way of ensuring that the journal 26 which has the head 25 of increased width is reliably held to the cover 19 and is displaceable to a limited degree in the longitudinal extent of the cover 19. This is an easy way of compensating for manufacturing tolerances during manufacture of the fitting and during assembly. Likewise, displacement is compensated for between the journal 26 which has the head 25 and the holder 28 which has the T-shaped groove 27 which is necessary if the leaf 10 and fixed frame structure 11 are made of wood and warps. Due to the fact that the journal 26 which has the head 25 of increased width is able to be displaced to a limited extent, it is ensured that when the leaf 10 is moved from the open position into the closed position the journal 27 provided with the head of increased width can freely engage in the Tshaped groove 27 of the holder 28.
