Abstract

A valve assembly, suitable to fit to a rising stem tap in which flow lifts the valve member, comprises a tubular member (20) having a bore which provides a path for the fluid flow. An annular seal member (25) is retained in a channel (28) around the inside of the tubular member (20). A valve member (22) provided with a valve seat portion (23) is inserted into the downstream end of the tubular member (20) by a valve actuating member (18). Fluid flow through the bore of the tubular member (20) is closed off by axial sealing between the valve seat portion (23) and the annular seal (25). A flange cap (30) on the valve member (22) prevents excessive compression of the seal member (25) by limiting the travel of the valve seat portion (23). The valve member (22) also comprises an axially slotted stem (24) which locates in the bore of the tubular member (20).
