Abstract
A screw, bolt, nail or stud extractor comprises a punch (Fig.1, not shown) which is used to make an indentation centred over the fastener to be extracted. A drill guide 4 is placed into hole 6 in a drill guide housing, Fig. 3, and edge 5 of drill guide 4 is positioned in the indentation. A drill is then introduced into hole 3 of the drill guide and the fastener is then drilled out. <IMAGE>
Description
SCREW, SLg, NAIL AND STUD EXTRACTOR
This invention refers to a screw, bolt, nail and stud extractor.
Broken or immovable screws , bolts nails and studs are difficult to extract##ac#urat-e4y particularly when it is important not to dam#age the material in which they are embedded.
According to the present invention there is provided a punch, drill guide and drill guide housing to facilitate the removal of a screw, bolt, nail and stud by means of a manual or electric drill.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which s- Fig. 1 shows the tempered steel punch
Fig. 2 shows the tempered steel drill guide
Fig. 3 shows the mild steel drill guide housing
Refering to the drawings the extractor consists of 3 pieces, the punch, fig. 1, the drill guide fig.2, and the drill guide housing fig. 3.
In order to use the extractor the punch fig.l is centered over the screw, bolt, nail or stud to be extracted and the cutting edge 2 is hammered well into the material in which it is embedded. This circular indentation provides accurate positioning for the drill guide edge 5 which is identical to that of the punch edge 2.
The drill guide is then placed in the drillguide housing fig.3, into the aperture 6, the drill guide then clamped by means of a screw in the threaded aperture 9 which makes contact with the drill guide body 4.
The drill guide is then tapped into the indentation previously made by the punch.
The drill guide housing is secured in place by means of either screws through apertures 7, or by means of the operator's weight applied to a suitable board attatched with screws through apertures 8, or by suitable clamping.
A drill bit of i mm. less in diameter than that of the aperture 3 is introduced into apferturs 3 and pushed down onto the screw, bolt, nail or stud which can then be completely or partialy drilled out by means of a manual or electric drill.
Claims (2)
1 An extractor comprising of a punch, drill guide, and drill guide housing to facilitate the removal of a screw, bolt, nail or stud by means of a manual or electric drill.
2 An extractor substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1-3 of the accompanying drawings.
