Description

Title SLEEPING BAG Field of the invention The present invention relates to a sleeping bag.
Background of the invention In certain types of angling, it is necessary spend long periods waiting for a fish to bite. The angler places one or two rods on rod supports having bite indicators and waits for a bite indicator to sound an alarm to draw his attention to movement of the line. While waiting for a bite, in order to make himself as comfortable as possible, the angler will often have a folding camp bed to lie on, a tent to keep him dry and shelter him from wind and a sleeping bag to keep him warm.
Sleeping bags are usually made from a nylon material.
Though they are well suited for use on the floor, they are uncomfortable when used on a folding bed because they tend to slide on the bed and ruck up under the person lying in them. The problem for anglers is even worse because on certain occasions it may no the possible for the bed to be perfectly horizontal and the sleeping bag tends to slide downhill and eventually falls off the bed.
With a view to mitigating the foregoing disadvantage, the present invention provides a sleeping bag having means for securing the sleeping bag to the frame of a folding bed to prevent the bag from sliding relative to the bed.
Preferably, the means for securing the bag may comprise a pocket, arranged at the head end of the sleeping bag.
The pocket at the end of the sleeping bag effectively anchors the sleeping bag to the bed when it is in use but does not complicate the setting up procedure as it can simply be slipped over the frame of the folding bed.
Other means may alternatively be used for anchoring the sleeping bag to the folding bed. For example the bed may be formed with one half of a buckle, the other half of which forms part of the sleeping bag.
A further problem which anglers face is that they need to be able to get out of the sleeping bag and off the camp bed as quickly as possible when they hear an alarm from a bite indicator. It is not unknown for an angler, in his haste, to get his feet caught in the sleeping bag and to drag it off the camp bed as he tries to place his feet on the floor.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the sleeping bag is further provided at its feet end with a second means for anchoring the sleeping bag around the frame of the folding bed. Such means may have the form of a second pocket but it is preferred to use a strap which can be tightened around the frame of the bed.
Though the outer surface of the sleeping bag may form part of the pocket, it is preferred for the pocket to be separately formed and to be secured to the under side of the sleeping bag along the open end of the pocket. In this way, the part of the sleeping bag on which the angler rests his head can be raised from the bed, making the bag more comfortable.
It is advantageous to form the sleeping bag with a detachable lining which can be added to improve heat insulation in colder weather and can be detached for cleaning.
Brief description of the drawings The invention will now be described further, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a plan view from below of a sleeping bag of the invention, Figure 2 is a perspective view showing the sleeping bag of Figure 1 when secured to a folding bed, Figure 3 is a plan view from above of the sleeping bag of Figure 1 with the top cover partly folded down, and Figure 4 is a plan view similar to that of Figure 3 showing the same bag with the top cover fully zipped up.
Detailed description of the preferred embodiment The drawings show a sleeping bag 10 having a top cover 12 and an under side 14 formed integrally with one another along one edge of the sleeping bag 10 and connected to one another along the opposite edge by a zip fastener 16.
Instead of the zip fastener 16 extending around the foot of the sleeping bag, the illustrated bag has a base 18 which is sewn to the top cover 12 and the under side 14, to allow more room for the user's feet.
As best seen in Figures 3 and 4, the head end of the sleeping bag 10 is formed as a hood 20 which can be tightened around the user's head by means of a pull string 22 for additional warmth in cold weather. Figures 3 and 4 also show that the sleeping bag has a detachable quilted lining 24 held in place for example by Velcro RTM and that the body of the sleeping bag can be separately tightened at the shoulders by means of a second pull stI On is under side 14, the sleeping bag 10 has at the head end a separately formed pocket 30 that it sewn to the under side 14 at approximately shoulder level. This pocket, as can be seen in Figure 2, fits over the frame 32 of a folding bed 34.The bed has a canvas or nylon cover secured to the frame over which the sleeping bag 10 rests and the purpose of the pocket 30 is to prevent the bag from sliding along the cover of the bed 34, especially when the feet 36 of the bed 34 are not resting on level ground.
Additionally, the sleeping bag 10 has two straps 40, 42 which can be connected to one another under the frame of the bed 34 by means of a buckle 44. By tying the sleeping bag down in this manner, the risk of its being dragged off the bed is avoided.
The pocket 30 and straps 40, 42 are only examples of means for securing the sleeping bag 10 to the bed 34. Other means may alternatively or additionally be employed, if desired.
For example, straps with buckles on them may be secured to the frame of the bed at different places. Matching buckles on the sleeping bag may be used to effect a quick and rapidly releasable fixing of the sleeping bag to the bed.
