Abstract
The mitre guide comprises a base plate (10), an adjustable saw guide (12) and an adjustable and detachable angle blade (14). The saw guide (12) is hinged (11) to one edge of the base plate (10) and supported at the top centre by a curved calibrated bracket supported to the upperside of the base plate (10) at the centre edge opposite the hinged edge. The saw guide (12) determines the angle of the saw blade. The angle blade (14) determines the angle of the cut across the timber to be worked, and is fixed to the underside front end of the base plate (10) via a pivot lug (17, Fig. 3, not shown) and a locking bolt (19, Fig. 3, not shown) protruding through a curved calibrated slot on the upperside of the base plate, with a locking nut (16) or similar. A saw blade is received within saw cut slot (13) in saw guide (12). <IMAGE>
Description
MITRE SAW GUIDE
This Invention Relates to A Mitre Saw Guide
Mitre blocks are well known they consist of a block of wood "app" 260mm long and L shaped. The upstand part of the block has three saw cuts, one at 45 , one at 90 and one at 135 , Timber to be worked is placed on the base of the L shaped block, the saw blade is placed in a selected slot in the upstand which acts as a guide for cutting through the timber at the selected angle.
These Mitre Blocks are restricted to the amount of angles they can be worked at and the size of timber to be cut. They also lose their angle accuracy as the saws teeth wear away the saw guide angle slots on the block.
According to the present invention there is provided a Base
Plate with a Saw Guide connected to one end. The hinged Saw
Blade Guide can be adjusted through a 90 angle to the Base
Plate via a bracket fixed to the centre edge of the Base Plate opposite the hinged edge. The bracket is curved through 90 to provide the Saw Guide to be locked at any given position on the 90 calibrated scale. The Base Plate has two holes drilled one in near each corner of the upperside nearest the hinged edge.
From the opposite corners to near centre of the hinged edge of the Base Plate is a 90 curved slot cut through to the underside. The adjustable Angle Blade Guide is connected to the underside of the Base Plate via a Pivot Lug and a threaded bolt or similar, set in the edge of the Angle Blade Guide. The Pivot
Lug is set to the end edge of the blade and placed in the drilled hole with the threaded bolt protruding through the 90 cut out curved slot on the upper side of the Base Plate. A locking nut or similar is screwed onto the bolt allowing the
Angle Blade Guide to be positioned at the required setting. The
Angle Blade can be reversed to the opposite end of the Base
Plate to give opposite angle cuts.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying in which
Fig 1 Shows Mitre Saw Guide assembled with all cutting
angles set at right angles.
Fig 2 Shows Mitre Saw Guide assembled with Saw Guide set at
45 angle and with the Angle Blade set at a right
angle.
Fig 3 Shows Mitre Saw Guide partly assembled with Angle
Blade detached showing position of Pivot Lug and
threaded bolt.
Fig 4 Shows Mitre Saw Guide Disassembled.
Referring to the drawing's the Mitre Saw Guide comprises a Base
Plate 10, a Saw Guide 12 and a Angle Blade 14.The Saw Guide 12 is attached to the Base Plate 10 by means of a hinge 11 for example or similar. The Saw Guide has a Saw Cut slot 13 to the edge nearest to the Base Plate to receive a Saw Blade. (see Fig.
1)
The vertical angle can be adjusted through 90 via the Base
Plate Bracket 15 and secured in position by Locking Nut 16. (see
Fig. 2)
The Angle Blade 14 is attached to the Base Plate by a Stud 17 or similar, fixed to the upper edge of the Angle Blade and slotting into drilled hole 18 in the Base Plate.
A Threaded Bolt 19 or similar is fixed to the edge of Angle
Blade and protrudes through a 90 curved cut out slot 20, in the
Base Plate and secured with nut 21 or similar to lock at required angle. The Angle Blade is detachable to allow assembly at the opposite end of the Base Plate for reverse angle cuts.
(see Fig. 3)
The Mitre Saw Guide is easily assembled and disassembled to be neatly packed away without taking up shelf space. (see Fig. 4)
Claims (10)
- CLAIMS 1. A Mitre Saw Guide comprises of a Base Plate, a Saw Guide and an Angle Blade. The Saw Guide is attached to the Base Plate at a 90 angle by means of a hinge. The Saw Guide can be set at any angle up to 90 from the Base Plate via a curved support bracket to the centre edge of the upperside of the Base Plate opposite hinged edge. The support bracket is calibrated up to 90 and incorporates a locking nut or similar, to secure Saw Guide at any pre-set position. The Saw Guide incorporates a slot from the bottom edge upwards to allow for insertion of a Hand Saw Blade. The Angle Blade is attached to the underside of the Base Plate via a Pivot Stud and threaded bolt or similar, with locking nut or similar. If the locking nut device is loose the Blade can be set at any angle on the calibrated scale marked on the upper side of the Base Plate. The Angle Blade can be removed and re-assembled at the other end of the Base Plate to give opposite angle cuts.
- 2. A Mitre Saw Guide as claimed in claim 1, wherein guide means are provided on the calibrated curved Base Plate bracket to control the movement of Saw Guide.
- 3. A Mitre Saw Guide as claimed in claim 1 or in claim 2, wherein Locking means are provided on the curved calibrated bracket for locking in position the Saw Guide.
- 4. A Mitre Saw Guide as claimed in claim 1, wherein Guide means are provided on the Base Plate for the movement of the Angle Blade.
- 5. A Mitre Saw Guide as claimed in claim 4, wherein means are provided on the calibrated curved slot for locking in position the Angle Blade.
