Abstract

A box of solid cardboard, corrugated cardboard, corrugated plastics or synthetic materials is made up from a blank comprising a bottom panel (1) and hingedly attached side wall panels (2, 3). Rim panels (13) hingedly attached to the respective upper edges of the wall panels fold horizontally to form a rim around the box. Corner panels on the side edges of the side panels (3) fold inwardly to lie adjacent the inner sides of side wall (2), and struts attached to the outer edges of one pair of opposed rim panels (13) lie adjacent the outer sides of the side panels (2) at the corners of the box. Self-locking flaps (8) on the ends of the struts project inwardly through slots (10) formed at the bottom corners of the side panels (2) and tabs hingedly attached thereto prevent their withdrawal through the slots, thereby holding the assembled box together. <IMAGE>

Description

TECHNICAL FIELD This invention relates to an extra-strong self-locking box.
BacKground: A lot of boxes are used in industry and agriculture. if there is a need for an extra-strong box they are either glued or stapled, but if they are only folded they are usually not strong enough for transport and so come apart.
Essential technical features: There is obviously a demand for boxes of different shapes and sizes. On this system it is possible to stack different sizes onto the same pallet, using a modular construction system. On my boxes the floor area is A 2, A 3 or A 4. The boxes can be clipped together, so that they don't "wobble" on a pallet.
There is no need to wrap the pallets.
The sides of the boxes can be made with ventilation-holes to the users' specification.
There is also a lid whicn slides easily onto the top of tne box.
The boxes can be made out of solid cardboard, corrugated card
board, corrugated plastic (CorrexL) or synthetic materials.
A Dig advantage is also a saving on storage and transportspace as the boxes are made up as they are needed.
EXAMPLE Fig. 1 shows the ready assembled box Fits. 2. shows the box as it is cut, ready to be folded Flg. 5 shows shape of the lid and the stackiny of two difterent sizes boxes FiN 4' snows two Doxies side oy side ana the clip Refering to the drawings: &num; 1: floor (drainage-holes can be cut if needed) # 2: length-side (ventilation-holes can be cut) &num; 3: front end with holes half cut, so theyfold up for easier (less painful) carrying # 4: tabs (stops the box on top from sliding) # 5: hole for tab # 6: upright corner cut from the side-wall goes through to &num; 7: notch (stops moving the top corners side- and long-ways) &num; 8: self-lockiny flap to Lock the box all in itself $ 9: is a small gap in the rim for sliding the lid on &num; 10: is a hole and cut where 4 8 fits in # 11: clip (for holding two boxes together) &num; 12: two kerbs (to hold the clips in place) &num; 13: rim ABSTRACT This extra strongself-locKlng box offers a unique combination of strengnt, durability and simplicity for a wide range of use. The possibility of stacking and interlocking makes it also safe in transport. The boxes can be easily overprinted or altered to customers specification.

Claims (2)

CLAIMS The claim that makes this box unique is the treble-strength corners that are locked and wedged in to make it less wobbly than other boxes on the marKet. It is nearly impossible for the box to fall apart in everyday use, except cuttiny or ripping it deliberately apart. Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows CLAIMS:
1. A box made from a sheet blank of solid cardboard, corrugated cardboard, corrugated plastics or synthetic materials, comprising: a substantially rectangular bottom panel; first and second pairs of opposed substantially rectangular side panels hingedly attached to the edges of the bottom panel; and upper rim panels hingedly attached to the edges of the side panels remote from the bottom panel to form rims along the upper edges of the side walls in the box as made up, wherein corner panels are hingedly attached to respective opposed side edges of each of the side panels of the first pair, to fold inwardly and stand adjacent the side panels of the second pair in the made up box, wherein the rim panels attached to the side panels of the first pair each have a pair of struts hingedly attached to their respective opposite ends, to fold downwardly from the rim adjacent the outside of the side panels of the second pair, and wherein a self-locking flap is hingedly attached to each of said struts, along an edge thereof remote from its attachment to the respective rim panel, so that in the assembled box each of said self-locking tabs is pushed through a slot formed between the bottom panel and the bottom edges of the corner panels and of the side panels of the second pair, each of said self-locking flaps having a tab hingedly attached thereto to project upwardly from the bottom panel and prevent withdrawal of the flap from the slot.
2. A blank for a box, substantially as herein described with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
