Description
2264327 1 A LOCKING DEVICE This invention relates to a device for locking
a sash frame in its closed position inside an outer frame by means of a thrust rod which is guided on or in a limb of the sash frame or outer frame. This rod has at least one locking element which is displaceable coaxially with it and which, as a function of its position, can be coupled with a locking element fastened rigidly to an opposing limb of the outer frame or sash frame. For this purpose, at least one projection of each of the locking elements engages into one depression of the other of the locking elements.
In the case of a device of this type which is disclosed in prior German specification DE 36 09 584 C2, each projection and each depression of the locking elements extends parallel to the frame plane. Moreover, each locking element has, outside the projections and depressions, at least one edge strip with which an edge strip of the other locking element is associated. In this respect, in the coupled state mutually opposite surfaces of these edge strips are aligned substantially perpendicular to the frame plane.
The design of the known device makes it possible to accommodate the locking elements inside a gap of slight width between the adjacent frame limbs and to design the locking elements nevertheless in such a way that they have high resistance to breaking-open. The resistance results from the mutually opposite surfaces, aligned substantially perpendicular to the frame plane, of the edge strips, which are laterally associated with the projections and depressions fo the locking elements and which consequently, upon an attempt at breaking-open, press increasingly against one another, without cancelling the locking.
Whilst the known device thus has high resistance to breaking-open, because the stress occurring in this respect SJL231292 2 ensues substantially in the frame plane, high resistance to explosive attacks requires sufficient strength against a shearing-off of the projections aligned parallel to the frame plane, because the stressing occurring in this respect ensues substantially perpendicular to the frame plane.
An object of the present invention is to provide an improved device of the type described at the beginning hereof which, whilst retaining high resistance to breakingopen, it is also distinguished by high resistance to explosive attacks.
In accordance with the invention such a locking device is characterised in that at least one first locking element is provided with three projections, between which respective depressions are arranged, and at least one second locking element, which can be coupled with the first one, is provided with three depressions between which respective projections are arranged, in which respect a central projection of the first locking element is arranged with its cross-sectional central axis in the frame plane or at an acute angle to the frame plane, whereas the two outer projections of the first locking element and parts of transitional surfaces between the projections of the first locking element and the depressions of the second locking element are arranged with their respective cross-sectional central axes perpendicular to the frame plane.
As a result of the projections of the locking elements being aligned differently in accordance with the invention, depending on the stress direction in or perpendicular to the frame plane, projections are available which offer optimum resistance to the respective stress.
Upon an attempt at breaking-open of the locking device, for example with the aid of a crowbar, the first or second locking element would be able to be swung limitedly about an.' axis which extends through a bearing point at which a SJL231292 surface part of the central projection of the first locking element butts against a surface part of the central depression of the second locking element. With increasing swivelling of the crowbar, possibly the outer projection, lying on the attack side, of the first locking element could be levered increasingly out of the associated depression of the second locking element. At the same time, however, as a result of the swivel movement of the one and/or other looking element about the bearing point in the region of the central projection and of the central depression, the outer projection of the first locking element lying opposite the attack side would inevitably be pressed increasingly more firmly into the associated depression of the second locking element.
Upon an explosive attack the alternating stress, resulting therefrom, of the sash frame as tensile/compressive load in the perpendicular direction to the frame plane would lead to the fact that in both load instances the central projection of the first locking element is stressed in shear and the one or the other of the outer projections of the first locking element is stressed in compression and consequently pressed increasingly into the associated outer depression of the second locking element.
In order to counteract deformation forces generally occurring in the frame plane on a sash frame locked in its closed position, a development of the invention makes provision for the fact that the two transitional surfaces between the three projections of the first locking element extend in concave curves and the two transitional surfaces between the three depressions of the second locking element extend in convex curves, the respective radii of which is larger than the width of the cross- section with which the projections are respectively integrally formed on the remaining regions of the locking elements.
In the case of this development, the concave and convex SJL231292 4 curves offer relatively large supporting surfaces, so that the specific pressure per unit area, even upon large compressive forces, can be kept relatively small.
The locking elements which can be coupled with one another can be designed in a particularly compact manner if, in accordance with a further development of the invention, the outer projections of the first locking element are aligned convergingly and the two projections of the second locking element are aligned diveringly.
As a result of this development, the locking elements can be designed in a relatively narrow manner and, in this respect, their width dimensions can be utilised in an optimum manner to accommodate the concave and convex transitional surfaces.
An exemplified embodiment of a locking device, in accordance with the invention, is shown in the accompanying drawing.
Two box profiles 1 and 2, shown in cross-section, are constituent parts of adjacent limbs of a conventional outer frame and a sash frame, respectively.
Provided on the box profile 1, on the side facing the box profile 2, is an undercut groove 3, in which a thrust rod 4 can be moved up and down.
Distributed at intervals along its length, first locking elements 5 are fastened to the thrust rod 4 and, as a function of their respective positions, these can be engaged in pairs with respective second locking elements 6 which are fastened securely to the box profile 2 on the side thereof facing the box profile 1.
In the position where a first locking element 5 is coupled or engaged with a second locking element 6, a central projection 7 and two outer projections 8 and 9 of the first SJL231292 locking element 5 engage into a central depression 10 and, respectively, into two outer depressions 11 and 12 of the second locking element 6. At the same time, two projections 13 and 14 of the second locking element 6 engage into two correspondingly shaped depressions, 15 and 16 respectively, of the first locking element 5.
The projections 8 and 9 of the first locking element project towards each other, whilst the projections 13 and 14 of the second locking element project away from each other, i.e. diverge. The cross-sectional central axes of the convergingly aligned projections 8 and 9 of the first locking element 5 extend perpendicular to the frame plane, as do the crosssectional central axes of the divergingly aligned projections 13 and 14 of the second locking element 6, whereas the cross-sectional central axis of the central projection 7 of the first locking element 5 extends at an acute angle to the frame plane.
Transitional surfaces 17 and 18 between the projection 7, on the one hand, and the projections 8 and 9 respectively, on the other hand, extend in concave curves, opposite which there lie transitional surfaces 19 and 20, of the second locking element, which extend in convex curves.
Since the concavely and convexly extending transitional surfaces 17 to 20 are aligned perpendicular to the frame plane, they form an effective resistance to forces occurring in the frame plane. Upon the locking element 5 and 6 on one frame side being forced apart, the projection 7 of the locking element 5 forms, with the depression 10 of the locking element 6, a hinge, so that on the side remote from the attack side the locking elements 5 and 6 are pressed increasingly more firmly against one another.
