Abstract

The cycle has electric motors (6) in addition to conventional pedal drive. A canopy (1) provides shelter for the rider(s) and carries solar cells (2) connected by cables (3) to batteries (4) fixed on a tray over the rear wheel. A trickle charger (7) allows charging from the mains. The canopy (1) is filled with helium and is mounted on an adjustable support arm (8) to provide lift. The cycle may have two, four or six wheels and seat one, two or four riders and even larger versions are envisaged. <IMAGE>

Description

This invention relates to a new means of transport, powered by pedals and electric motors.
The cycle car is a revolutipnary new use of modern cycles, linked together, supportingua lightweight helium filled canopy, covered with silicone and titanium energy producing cells.
In this new invention there is provided a multi-purpose vehicle, with a central carrying tray to house nickel cadnium batteries which will store the electric power obtained from the canopy during the hours of daylight, and from the National Grid via a battery charger during the hours of darkness.
The cycle car can be used by one, two, three, four or more people. All rear handlebars and wheels are fixed so as to run in a straight line only. The front wheels are turned from side to side in unison by means of a steering mechanism.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 - Shows the canopy.
Figure 2 - Indicates the energy cells covering the entire top of the canopy made with a thin sheet of silicone over a thin sheet of titanium over a second thin sheet of silicone.
Figure 3 - Indicates the thin eletric cables taking the electric power to the batteries.
Figure 4 - Indicates the nickel cadnium batteries housed on the central tray and over the rear wheel of the cycle car.
Figure 5 - Indicates the canopy void and the support tubes filled with pressurised'helium gas to provide lift.
Figre 6 - Indicates the electric motors which drive the road wheels Figure - 7 Indicates the battery trickle charger, with cable and plug attached (to get power from the National Grid when cycle car not in use).
Figure 8 - Indicates theuadjustable front support arm, allowing the angle of the canopy to the road to be varied.
Figure 9 - Indicates the front frame rail which also houses the electric motors on/off switch
