Abstract

The chuck jaws 10 become locked into position when a twist drill 14 is inserted into the chuck and tightened, the size of the countersinking varying with the drill size. Mutual separation of the jaws allows debris to be released. <IMAGE>

Description

A Variable - Automatic - countersink This invention relates to a Variable-Automatic-Countersink Countersinks are well luiown cutting tool bits, used to recess pr-bored holes in rigid materials,to enable a fixing screw to be placed therein. They are mainly used by people working with wood.
countersink bits are #however, are "relatively cheap to manufacture, and the public to purchase, they are continously mislaid or lost, mainly because of their size (i.e.50mm v IOmm) and is a scource of irrition to the user.
According to the present invention, there is provided a Variable - Automatic - countersink-consisting in the alteration of the visible surface area'of the tips of the set of chick jaws,so as to be able to perform an added funtion of countersinking rigid materials, and still retain its general eses, A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example to reference to the accompanying drawings in which: FIG I Shows in perspective a standard drill chuck.
FIG 2 illustrates a drill chuck with a defined circle area.
FIG 5 Shows the cutter chuck jaws FIG 4 shows the expanding countersink Referring to drawing FIG I is shown a standard drill chucts, with a specifically ringed area I2 which will be observed to contain item 10 which are the drill chuck jaws.
In order to see how the chuck jaws are ground see FIG 2 it now can be seen that the set of tips of the chuck jaws have a definite angle, relative to the angle as on a wood screw,or similar bolt.
To bring the countersink into use FIG 3 the standard proceedure is used, insert the chuck key (not seen, turning it sufficiently to allow a twist drill to be inserted Item 14.
FIG 4 is shown as having a much thicker drill inserted, item 15.
This entails in opening the chuck jaws much wider,as this operation is carried out,it can be seen that the chuck jaws have retracted into the body of the chock item 14.
AS the cluck jaws retract the diameter of the cutting edges increases, resulting that when the chuck is rotated as when boreing a hole, continueation of the forward thrust will result in the making of a larger size diameter countersink,to ofset the larger drill Item I3 being used.
To obtain a smaller hole, for the use of thinner screw, resulting in a smaller countersink, reverse the above sequence.

  1. CLAIMS.
I A Variable - Automatic -Countersink -Consists in the alteration of the visible surface area#s,of the set of drill chuck jaws,so as to be able to perform an added function of countersinking rigid materials, and still retain itis general uses.
  2. 2. A Variable - Automatic -Countersink - as in Claim I The tips of the set of chuck jaws, are ground and set relative to the angle of a countersink screw.
  3. 3. A Variable - Automatic - countersink -as in claims I Have now become individual cutters, identical to each other.
  4. 4.A Variable - Automatic - countersink - as in Claims I,2,and 3 means the size of the countersink is automatically increased or decreased,as different sized drills are inserted into the chuck.
  5. 5 -A Variable - Automatic - countersink - as in claims as in I,2,3,@ 4 Is a means to carry out a double functional operation,in a singular action.
  6. 6. A Variable - Automatic -Countersink- as in claims I,2,3,4,@ 5.Is formed from the three individual loose jaws of the chuck, and are locked into the chuck unit when manufactured, apon changing a twist drill, the debris of wood dust and chips accumalated on the cutting edges is released.
  7. 7. A Variable - Automatic - countersink - as in claims I,2,3,4,5, 6 Is an added part of the multi-functional uses 0 tne electric hand drill, yet still retaining the origolal ,,unctional, purposes, fcr which the drill was manufactured for.
