Abstract

A cooking device comprising an outer pot element (3) having an opening (34) in the base to receive heat thereinto and a plurality of lugs (31) for lifting it, an inner pot element (2) disposed inside the outer pot element and a cover (1) to cover the device. The inner pot element (2) is a pan-like element with a plurality of conducting slots (24) radially formed thereupon and a plurality of draining openings (22) also radially formed thereupon around the conducting slots (24) so that the overflowing liquid or grease is conducted by the conducting slots to the draining openings (22). and drops down into the outer pot element (3), to be retained therein for latter cleaning. <IMAGE>

Description

COOKING DEVICE FIELD OF THE INVENTION The invention relates to a cooking device, and in particular to a cooking device having draining means. The draining means has the capability to drain away the sauces and/or other liquids which might otherwise brim over the side of the cooking container, and also to drain away liquid seepage such as grease, from the food being cooked.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Conventional cooking devices usually provide no overflowing liquid draining means so that the cooking devices can be stained by overflowing liquid. Further, the overflowing liquid may be inflammable, for instance if containing grease, and drop onto the cooking fire, and result in disaster.
OBJECT OF THE INVENTION Therefore, it is an object of the present invention to provide a cooking device which has the capability to drain away overflowing liquid from the cooking container and/or the seepage from the cooked food, so as to keep the device clean and reduce the possibility of a fire disaster.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a cooking device which has provision to adjust the cooking period of the food, so as to preserve the taste of the food.
To achieve the above mentioned objects, there is provided a cooking device comprising an outer pot element having an opening in the base to receive heat thereinto and a plurality of lugs for lifting it, an inner pot element disposed inside the outer pot element and a cover to close the device.
The inner pot element is a pan-like element with a plurality of conducting guide slots or passageways formed thereupon and a plurality of draining openings around the conducting slots such that the overflowing liquid or grease is conducted by the conducting slots to the draining openings, and drops down into the outer pot element, to be retained therein for later cleaning. Preferably the slots or passageways are radially directed Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparant from the following description of the preferred embodiment taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, given by way of example BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING Fig.l is an exploded perspective view showing an embodiment of the cooking device in accordance with the present invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT With reference to the drawing, a cooking device in accordance with the invention comprises a cover 1, an inner pot element 2, and an outer pot element 3. The outer pot element 3 is a deep pot-like element having a heating opening 34 formed in the base thereof, with an upwardly extending flange 33 formed therearound; the outer pot element 3 has a plurality of lugs 31, preferably attached at symmetrically spaced positions to side wall 32 of outer pot element 3 to provide a means for lifting the cooking device. A circumferentally extending shoulder 35 is formed in the proximity of top flange 36 of the outer pot element 3 to receive and support the inner pot element 2 thereon. The depth of the outer pot element 3 is greater than the inner pot element 2 so that when the inner pot element 2 is disposed on the outer pot element 3, a space is formed therebetween. When the outer pot element 3 is placed on a stove of a camp fire or other suitable heat source (not shown in the drawing), heat is transferred to the inner pot element via the heating opening 34.
The inner pot element 2 is a pan-like element having a plurality of radially disposed conducting slots 24 around centre 23 thereof so as to conduct overflowing liquid or grease away from the centre 23 of the inner pot element 2. The inner pot element 2 further comprises a plurality of radially-disposed draining openings 22 located around conducting slots 24 so that when the overflowing liquid or grease is conducted away from the centre 23 of the pan-like element 2, the liquid or grease will drop down into the outer pot element 3 via the draining openings 22 and will then be retained in the outer pot element 3 by the upward flange 33 The inner pot element 2 also comprises a circumferential flange 21 therearound to prevent the overflowing liquid and grease from flowing off or out from the inner pot element 2 from the circumference thereof.
Cover 1, which is used to keep the interior of the device, and thus also the food being cooked from being contaminated in use is provided with a lifting knob 12. The cover 1 further has a closable hole 11 controlled by a tab 13 to adjust the cooking period of the food so that the taste of the food (not shown) that is cooked with and within the device in accordance with the present invention can be retained.
We foresee that the invention will have particular application for cooking foods for barbeques and the like, with for instance the meat to be cooked being placed on inner pot element 2, and the excess fat draining away via slots 24 and holes 22, to be kept separate from the cooking flame by flange 33.

Claims (6)

1. A cooking device comprising (a) an outer pot element having a side wall, a base with an opening formed therein to receive heat from a heat source, a circumferential flange formed around said opening, lifting means for use in lifting the sidewall, said side wall having a circumferentially extending shoulder internally of the device; (b) an inner pot element adapted to be disposed on said circumferentially extending shoulder and having a plurality of conducting slots to conduct away overflowing liquid, and a plurality of draining openings located radially beyond said conducting slots, said draining openings being radially outwards in use of said circumferential flange, said inner pot element further having a circumferential flange to prevent the overflowing liquid or grease from flowing out of the inner pot element from said circumference thereof; and (c) a cover fittable to the outer pot element at a position above the inner pot element in use.
2. A device according to claim 1 in which the cover has a lifting knob for lifting said cover, and a closable hole controlled by a tab to adjust the cooking period of food cooked by heat supplied through said opening.
3. A device according to claim 1 or claim 2 in which the draining slots are radially disposed.
4. A device according to claim 1 or claim 2 or claim 3 in which the draining slots are depressions in the surface of the inner pot element, said depressions facing upwardly in use.
