Description

APPARATUS FOR CONNECTING THE MICROPHONE CABLE BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION l.Field of the Invention This invention relates to an apparatus for connecting a microphone connector and a cord, more particularly to an apparatus for connecting a microphone connector and a cord having a flexible cord protective member integrally formed with the cord.
2. Description of the Related Art Referring to Fig. 1, a conventional apparatus for connecting a microphone connector 1 and a cord or cable 7 is shown. The microphone connector 1 has pin holes 2 at one end and pins 3 at the other end. The other end of the microphone connector 1 is inserted into an end 41 of a metal tubular socket 4 and engages the tubular socket 4 by screw members. The wires of cord 7 passes through a flexible member 6 which is fixed by a releasable clamp 5 and through the other end 42 of the tubular socket 4 and is connected to the pins 3 of the connector 1 by means of welding. This type of connecting apparatus suffers from the following disadvantages: (1) The flexible member 6 is tied with the cord 7 by the clamp 5 which may become loosened after being used for a period of time. Therefore, the wires of the cord 7 are liable to separate from the pins 3 of the microphone connecter 1 when the cord 7 is stretched out or twisted.
(2) Since the flexible member 6 cannot be bent coincidentally with the cord 7 wrapped therein, the copper wires in the cord 7 are liable to break when the cord 7 is bent about the flexible member 6 at a large angle with respect to the axis of the microphone.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is therefore an object of this invention to provide an apparatus for connecting a microphone connector and a cord in which the cord can be securely connected to the wires of the cord even if the cord is stretched or twisted.
It is another object of this invention to provide an apparatus for connecting a microphone connector and a cord in which the cord can be bent at a large angle with respect to the axis of the microphone.
In accordance with the present invention, an apparatus for connecting a microphone connector having a plurality of pins and a cord having a plurality of wires connected to the pins of the microphone connector includes a tubular socket having a first end connected to the microphone connector, a second end connected to a flexible member and a hollow receiving portion in which the pins of the microphone connector connected with the wire of the cord are received. The tubular socket and the flexible member are made of plastic materials. The flexible member has an upper section integrally formed with and wrapping around the tubular socket and a lower section integrally formed with and wrapping around the external surface of the cord. The lower section of the flexible member includes a plurality of spaced rings, every two of which have a rib connected therebetween. The adjacent ribs are arranged in a crossed relationship with respect to one another.
Preferably, the plastic material of the tubular socket is acrylontrile butadiene styrene (ABS) and the plastic material of the flexible member is polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
The hollow receiving portion of the tubular socket is preferably filled with flexible plastic material so that the pins and the wires of the cord can be firmly adhered in the tubular socket.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Other features and advantages of this invention will become apparent in the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment of this invention with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a partially exploded schematic view of a conventional apparatus for connecting a microphone connector and a cord; Fig. 2 is a sectional view of a preferred embodiment of an apparatus for connecting a microphone connector and a cord according to this invention; Fig. 3 is a side view of the preferred embodiment of an apparatus for connecting a microphone connector and a cord according to this invention; Fig. 4 is a perspective fragmentary view of the preferred embodiment of an apparatus for connecting a microphone connector and a cord according to this invention; and Fig. 5 is a perspective schematic view of the apparatus of Fig. 4 in a bending position.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring to Figs. 2 and 3, a preferred embodiment of an apparatus for connecting a microphone connector 10 and a cord 18 is shown. The microphone connector 10 is similar to the conventional microphone connectors.
A tubular socket 20 is connected to the microphone connector 10 by a screw 14 at one end 201 thereof. The tubular socket 20 is made of a rigid plastic material, such as acrylontrile butadiene styrene (ABS). The pins 16 are inserted in the hollow receiving portion 25 of the tubular socket 20. The wires 19 of the cord 18 pass through the other end 202 of the tubular socket 20 and are connected to the pins 16 of the microphone connector 20 by welding. A flexible member 30 made of a plastic material with suitable rigidity, such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC), is integrally formed around the tubular socket 20 and the cord near the tubular socket 20 by injection molding methods. The PVC material will fill in the hollow receiving portion 25 of the tubular socket 20 via the holes 23 formed in the wall of the tubular socket 20.Therefore, the wires 19 and the pins 16 can be fixed in the PVC material, preventing them from being oxidized and separated from each other.
The upper section 301 of the flexible member 30 is integrally formed with tubular socket 20 and lower section 302 of the flexible member 30 is integrally formed with the external surface of the cord 18.
Therefore, the cord 18 is still securely connected to the microphone connector 10 when the cord 18 is stretched or twisted.
Referring to Fig. 4, the lower section 302 of the flexible member 30 is formed with a plurality of spaced rings 32. Every two rings 32 have a rib 34 formed therebetween. Each of the ribs 34 extends diametrically to the ring 32. The adjacent ribs 34 on the opposite sides of the ring 32 are arranged in a crossed relationship with one another. Thereby, the cord 18 can be bent at a large angle with respect to the axis of the tubular socket 20 without worrying about disconnecting the conductive lines in the wires 19, as best illustrated in Fig. 5.
