Abstract

The Compact Disc Transporter is a hollow container produced as a single unit in joined halves, a lid 10 and base 11. The halves are joined by a hinge 14 on one side and a fastening flap device 12 on the opposite side. In the base are a number of grooves which the compact discs rest in. The Compact Disc Transporter is strengthened at a number of places, 16, 17 and 18 to prevent any damage to the contents. A clip 19 is provided e.g. for attachment to a user's clothing. <IMAGE>

Description

COMPACT DISC TRANSPORTER This invention relates to a transportable compact disc container.
A compact disc is a small audio disc played by laser.
Ordinarily, compact discs are purchased in a casing substantially larger in volume and more bulky than the disc they protect.
At present there are various compact disc stacking units on the market, none of which are easily carried about ones person and by their very nature only accommodate compact discs in their outer casing.
With the advent of portable/vehicle compact disc players a need has arisen to carry compact discs without their outer casing (due to their weight) about ones person more frequently.
The present invention seeks to provide a lightweight means of carrying a selection of compact discs without their outer casing, whilst still effectively protecting their delicate nature from any possible mishaps that may befall them. To achieve this the container would preferably be formed from a single substance such as plastic with integrally constructed supports to prevent mis-shaping.
According to this invention access to the interior of the container would be by means of an easily operated fastening flap device between the base and hinged lid. A means of holding the compact discs in place within the container by way of a series of grooves also being integrally constructed.
An essential element will be the attached multi-purpose clip for affixing the container to clothing, for example, waistbands or belts and or vehicle door pockets and or similar vehicle interior features.
A preferred embodiment of this container would be a half rebate lip at the joining point of the base and lid which, when the container is closed, would provide additional strength and protection against foreign bodies.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: FIGURE 1 Shows a perspective front view of the container in the closed position.
FIGURE 2 Shows a perspective rear view of the container in the open position.
FIGURE 3 Shows a plan view looking down into the open container.
THE DRAWINGS Referring to the drawings the container is in two joined halves, the top half (lid) 10 and the bottom half (base) 11 as best illustrated in Fig 2. The container is kept shut by means of a fastening flap device 12, shown in ghost on Fig 2, which is connected to the lid. As the lid and base are closed together the fastening flap device overlaps the base and sits into a recess 13 on the base side. This manouvre is achieved by means of a connecting hinge 14 on the opposite side of the fastening flap device where the base and lid are closed together. Incorporated in the design is a half rebate lip 15 to ensure lid and base locate precisely.
A number of strengthening features are integrally constructed each of which have an additional purpose. Strengthening feature 16 also acts as a mounting position for a multipurpose clip 19 shown in ghost on Fig 2, and is situated on the rear of the container so that when the container is worn on clothing, or generally attached to another independant item it is not visible, with, of course, the exception of the container being in a free-standing position best illustrated in Fig 2. Strengthening feature 17 is incorporated to add to the containers visual appeal and therefore it is situated on the front of the container as best illustrated in Fig 1. Strengthening feature 18 are two bars integrally constructed on the inside of the top half or lid of the container best illustrated in Fig 3.
The additional purpose of these bars is to hold and support the contents (compact discs) when the top half or lid is closed.
The multi-purpose clip 19 is designed and positioned to allow the container to be attached to a wide range of independant items such as clothing, vehicle door pockets and similar vehicle interior features. As previously mentioned, the multi-purpose clip is mounted on strengthening feature 16 and is therefore also concealed when in operation, again with the exception to the free-standing position.
Inside the bottom half or base is a number of grooves (See 20) Fig 3. integrally constructed these constitute the resting place for the said contents (compact discs).
Without these grooves it is apparent the enclosed contents would move about and become damaged.
On the outside front a raised rectangle section 21 is visible for advertising purposes, for example a sticker or printing may be applied directly to promote or describe the container and its usages Fig 1.
