Description

2 __) 6 J 2 9 Device for Cross-Cuttinq Webs The invention relates to a
device for cross cutting webs which can be used, for instance, in web fed rotary printing machines.
It is known in cross-cutting devices to arrange several strippers adjacently on the counter cylinder, these strippers removing the cut sheets from the counter cylinder. The cut sheets are then further transported, for instance by means of belt systems, to a collecting cylinder.
In such a device there is a risk of jamming in the gap between the strippers and the casing of the counter cylinder.
It is the aim of the invention to produce a device for cross-cutting webs, in particular such a device having a counter cylinder carrying cutting strips, one or more cutting rollers arranged on the counter cylinder and a stripper, or several strippers set adjacently in the axial direction on the counter cylinder for removing the cut sheet, with which device the cut sheets can be reliably removed from the counter cylinder.
According to the invention there is thus provided a device for crosscutting webs, having a counter cylinder carrying a cutting strip, a cutting roller acting, in use, against the counter cylinder and a stripping means for removing the cut sheet from the counter cylinder, wherein the stripper projects into a circumferential groove in the counter cylinder, and the cutting strip is retractable as it passes the region of the stripping means.
This construction does away with the gap between the casing surface of the counter cylinder and the strippers, and hence the problem of jamming during sheet removal is removed.
The withdrawal of the or each cutting strip can 2- advantageously be carried out by mounting each cutting strip on a lever supported on a cam disc and pivotally mounted in the body of the counter cylinder.
For a better understanding of the invention, and to show how the same may be carried into effect, reference will now be made by way of example to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 shows a schematic side view of a device according to the invention, and Fig. 2 is a view of part of the device in Fig.
1 looking in the direction of the arrow Z.
Fig. 1 shows a schematic side-view of a crosscutting device. The crosscutting device shown contains a counter cylinder 1 on which first and second cutting rollers 2,3 are arranged each with circumferences corresponding to the respective cutting length. They each carry a cutting blade 4,5. The cutting blade 4 has a cutting edge with gaps corresponding to points where a group of moving belts 6 abutting the counter cylinder 1 passes the blade region. The cutting blade 5 also has gaps, but offset with respect to those of the cutting blade 4. In these gaps a group of moving belts 7 abutting the counter cylinder 1 passes the region of the blade 5 of the second cutting roller 3. Fig. 2 illustrates the way in which the two groups of belts 6,7 and gaps are offset.
The belts 6,7 pass round a common belt roller 8. The journals of the cutting rollers 2,3 and of the belt roller 8 each carry a gear wheel 9 to 11. By means of the gear wheel 9 the cutting roller 2 is in driving connection with a gear wheel 12 of the counter cylinder 1. The gear wheel 11 of the belt roller 8 is also in engagement with the gear wheel 12 and drives the cutting roller 3 by means of an intermediate shift wheel 13 and the gear wheel 10. The intermediate shift wheel 13 makes possible synchronisation from the first stage to the second stage.
The counter cylinder 1 carries several, in this case four, cutting strips 14, i.e. strip-shaped counter-surfaces for the blades 4,5, with a mutual circumferential spacing equal to the cutting length. Each cutting strip 14 is secured on a lever 15 which is pivotally mounted in the body of the counter cylinder 1 and rests on a stationary cam disc 16 via a cam roller 22. The counter cylinder 1 has several circumferential grooves 17 into each of which a stripper 18 extends so as to project radially inwardly of the surface of the counter cylinder. Following the strippers 18 is a group of moving belts 19 for conveying the cut sheets.
The web 20 to be crosscut, for instance a printed web 20 longitudinally folded by means of a former, runs, supported by the belts 21, into the gap between the counter cylinder 1 and the belts 6 and proceeds towards the first cutting cylinder 2. On the line of contact of the counter cylinder 1 and the cutting cylinder 2 the web 20 is partially cut by the cutting blade 4 in conjunction with a cutting strip 14, i.e. the interruptions in the cutting blade 4 leave bridge pieces in the cutting line on the web 20 which are not separated until they are cut by means of the cutting blade 5 of the second cutting roller 3 in conjunction with the same cutting strip 14. For further details of the two-stage cutting process reference may be made to our copending application based on DE 4120628.
The individual sheets now obtained are removed from the counter cylinder 1 by the strippers 18 projecting underneath the sheets and further transported by means of belts 7 and 19, for instance to a collecting cylinder. The shape of the cam 16 is such that the cutting strips 14 are controllably retracted 4- when passing the region of the strippers 18. This is carried out when the cam rollers 22 of the levers 15 run on the fixed cam disc 16 during rotation of the counter cylinder 1; as can be seen, the cam disc 16 has four raised portions and four valley portions, corresponding to the number of cutting strips 14 in this example.
In the embodiment shown two cutting rollers are arranged on the counter cylinder. Also within the scope of protection of the patent are crosscutting devices in which there is only one cutting roller on the counter cylinder. Also, while in the example described the means for lifting and retracting the cutting strips includes a cam disc, cam roller and pivoted mounting lever, it is clear that any suitable arrangement could be used for this purpose.
