Abstract

Overflow pipes are uncovered and unprotected. They are liable to invasion by spiders, wasps, ants and other insects throughout the year, and during the winter when there is severe cold wind that can travel along the pipe causing possible freezing of the water system and cold coming into the home. The invention can help stop these problems by covering the end of the pipe but allowing water to flow out when necessary. The invention comprises of a flap that is free moving but attached to a clip that fits round the end of the pipe. The flap drops down to cover the end of the pipe, so keeping out any insects or freezing wind. If there should be an overflow the pressure of the water will lift the flap enabling the water to be released. <IMAGE>

Description

OVERFLOW PIPE COVER THIS INVENTION RELATES TO AN OVERFLOW PIPE COVER OVERFLOW PIPES WHICH PROTRUDE THE OUTSIDE WALLS OF MOST HOUSES TEND NOT TO BE PROTECTED FROM SEVERE COLD WINDS ENTERING THEM OR INSECTS SUCH AS SPIDERS ANTS WASPS. AS MOST OVERFLOW FIPES ARE CONNECTED TO WNTER SYSTEMS THIS COULD CAUSE PROBLEMS IN SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS, AND INSECTS ARE FREE TO GO IN AND OUT ALL YEAR ROUND.
SO ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT INVENTION, A COVER THAT WOULD STOP NNY COLD WINDS OR INSECTS FROM ENTERING THE OVERFLOW PIPE, BUT WOULD RELEASE ANY FLOW OF WATER IF NEEDED, WOULD BE BENEFICIAL.
THE OVERFLOW PIPE COVER CONSISTS OF TWO PARTS, FIGURE ONE THE CLIP THAT GOES ONTO THE PIPE AND FIOURE TWO THE FLAP THAT SLOTS INTO THE CLIP AND HAS FREE MOVEMENT.
FIGURE ONE THE CLIP THIS HAS A HORSESHOE SPRING SHAPE OPENING ABOVE WITH A SPLIT IN THE CIRCUMFRENCE OPPOSITE SO AS TO ALLOW THE CLIP TO OPEN IN CASE OF THE NEED TO FIT IT ON A LARGER PIPE SUCH AS UN IMPERIAL SIZE PIPE AS OPPOSED TO A METRIC SIZE PIPE. THE CLIP ITSELF FITS ONTO THE END OF THE OVERFLOW PIPE.
FIGURE TWO THE FLAP THE FLP FITS IN THE HORSESHOE AND IS SUPPORTED BY A SPROCKET T ON EITHER SIDE GOING INTO HOLES IN THE CLIP. SO THE FLP DROPS DOWN FLUSH TO THE CLIP. AND THE FLAPS CIRCUMFRENCE IS LARGER THAN THE EXTENDED CLIP.
SO AS THE FLAP IS FREE MOVING AND RESTS FLUSH AGAINST THE CLIP NOTHING CAN ENTER. BUT WHEN THERE IS AN OVERFLOW OF WATER THE PRESSURE OF THE WATER RAISES THE FLP AND ALLOWS THE WATER TO ESCAPE.

Claims (1)

  1. THE OVERFLOW PIPE COVER FITS ALL TYPES hND SIZES OF PIPES AS IT IS EXPANDABLE, WITH THE FLAP FITTING FLUSH OVER THE END OF THE PIPE STOPPING ANYTHING ENTERING THE OVERFLOW BUT ALLOWING hNY WATER TO ESCAPE BY FORCING THE FLAP UP. THE COVER CAN BE MADE IN ANY TYPE OF PLASTIC, NYLON OR SUITABLE MATERIAL THAT WILL BE STRONG ENOUGH TO EXPAND AND GRIP THE OVERFLOW PIPE. THE OVERFLOW PIPE COVER FITS ONTO THE OVERFLOW PIPE ALLOWING WATER TO ESCAPE BUT STOPPING ANYTHING FROM ENTERING. THE COVER COULD ALSO BE MADE TO FIT ANY PIPE USING A RIGID CLIP WITH MOVEABLE FLAP, TO FIT ANY SPECIFIC OVERFLOW PIPE SIZE.
Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows THE DESIGN OF THE FLAP AND CLIP ENABLES THE FLAP TO COVER THE END OF THE OVERFLOW PIPE, EVEN WHEN THE PIPE PROTRUDES AT AN ANGLE.
THIS WILL WORK ON PIPES THAT POINT DOWNWARDS UP TO AN ANGLE OF 45 DEGREES.
THE OVERFLOW PIPE FLAP MAY ALSO BE USED ON HIGH PRESSURE GAS AND OTHER OVERFLOW PIPES THAT HAVE TO POINT UPWARDS. THESE NEED TO BE COVERED TO PREVENT WATER, SNOW AND INSECTS ENTERING AND CAUSING ANY BLOCKAGE.
THE SIZE OF CLIP AND FLAP CAN BE MADE IN ANY SIZE TO FIT ANY SIZE OF PIPE.
