India-rubber, repairing; vulcanizing by cold methods.-A method of repairing or building up rubber articles consists in applying a freshlyprepared, partly vulcanized, semi-plastic rubber compound, saturated with vulcanizing agent and rubber solvent, to the article which is preliminarily treated with a rubber solvent and a solvent for the vulcanising agent. Pressure is then applied to express part of the vulcanizing agent from the applied body to the preliminarily treated article whereby the whole is vulcanized to an integral mass. The partly vulcanized rubber is prepared by dipping rubber, in the form of thin sheet, strip, thread, or other form possessing a large surface, into a mixture of a rubber solvent and a cold vulcanizing agent. A suitable mixture consists of carbon tetrachloride, carbon disulphide, sulphur chloride, and amyl acetate.
