Abstract

There is described a fire retardant paint comprising pigment, acrylic emulsion, hardening agent, additive and water wherein the additive is mixture of borax, boric acid and ammonium sulphate.

Description

TITLE OF INVENTION: FIRE-RETARDENT PAINTING The present fire-retardent painting is composed of pigment, acrylic emulsion, hardening agent, waterresistant agent, additive and water. It can be applied on the surface of ceramic wall, wood or polylon to provide fire-resistant effect.
FIRE-REtARDENm PAINTING This invention relates to fire-retardant painting which can be rapidly carbonized under combustion. In particular, this invention relates to the fireretardant painting which does not contain phosphate or asbestos and therefore, does not generate any toxic smoke under combustion.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Woodwork applied with painting was generally used as ceiling or acourtic board to decorate a room. However, woodwork is an excellent combustion-supporting materia. It is readily burned and generated much smoke to influence person's hestlh and properties. One prior technique combined phosphate or asbestos with painting to provide fire-retardant effect.. Although the painting having phosphate or asbestos therein can provide temperary fire-resistance effect, the toxic smoke resulted from the combustion of phosphate or asbestos will prevent one from escape.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION Therefore, an object of this invention is to provide fire-retardant painting which can be rapidly carbonized under combustion.
Another object of this invention is to provide the fire-retardant painting which does not contain phosphate or asbestos and therefore, does not generate any toxic smoke under combustion.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT In accordance with this invention, the fireretardant painting comprises 35.17 to 45.17 wtZ of pigment, and 64.83 to 54.83 wt% of vehicle. The vehicle used is composed of 26.33 to 36.33 wt% of acrylic emulsion; 25.55 to 15.55 wt% of the mixture of borax, boric acid and ammonium sulfate; 34.33 to 44.33 wt% of water; and hardening agent and additive in equivalent amount.
The hardening agent suitable used in this invention is ammonium chloride, magnesium chloride, calcium chloride, zinc chloride of the mixture thereof.
The drying time between two paIntIng operation can be reduced by the incorporation of the hardening agent with the fire-retardant painting. The amount of the hardening agent used depends on the used condition.
Generally, the weight percent of the hardening agent and the additive base on the total weight of the vehicle is about 8.79.
The weight percent of the pigment used in this invention based on the total weight of the fireretardant painting is 59.83. The variety of the pigment used depends on the desired color. Take white fireretardant painting for example, the pigment used is composed of 62.70 wt% of zirconium oxide and 37.30 wt% of magnesium silicate.
Example of the present invention is set forth below. It will be understood that these example is for purposes of illustration only and is not to be construed as limiting the invention.
EXAMPLE The pigment used in this example was produced by homogeneously mixing 12.54g of zirconium oxide and 7.46g magnesium silicate. To another container 6.27g of acrylic emulslon, 4.Tig of the mIxture of borax, boric acid and ammonium sulfate, 7.87g of water and 1.76g of ammonium chloride were added and homogeneously stirred to obtain the vehicle. After mixing 8.03g of pigment and 11.97g of vehicle, the present fire-retardant painting was produced. The viscosity thereof was 102 and the gravity was 1.32.
The fire-retardant painting obtained was applied to the predetermined surface of the woodwork. After drying, the previous procedure was repeated twice. The drying step was carried out at 20"J to 35"J for about 30 minutes.
The fire-resistant test of the painting produced was achieved according to CNS.8736 - 2079 and CNS.8736.
After 650"J fire burning 2 minutes, fire was exhaust within 10 seconds. Ember was exhaust within 30 seconds and the carbonized area was about 50 cm?.
Although the present invention has been described in detail, it will be understood by those of ordinary skill in the art that various modifications can be made, without departing from the spirit and scope of this invention. Accordingly, it is not intended that this invention be limited, except as by the appended claims.
