Abstract

The warning device comprises a float switch which when liquid in the chamber reaches a predetermined level closes and operates a warning flasher unit and an alarm bleeper. The float switch is mounted in the chamber; the flasher and bleeper are mounted at an external location. <IMAGE>

Description

DRAINAGE INSPECTION-CHAMBER OVERFILL WiWE G DEVICE (Patent applied for No.9108545.1) The above description is self explanatory and the Unit has bn devised to alert Council or Private Estate Maintenance Staff of blocking to the drainage system before any backflow reaches the internal sanitary fittings and overflowing into domestic premises.
It consists of an Activating Unit built into the Chamber and linked by low-voltage wiring to a visual/audio unit the wiring being let into the ground and adjacent wall. (It may prove satisfactory to use metal conduit on the face of the wall) The activating unit fixed into the chamber comprises a short PVC pipe with blank ends (but removeable) the bottom one of which is trilled to accommodate the movement of a plastic rod to the bottom end of which is fixed a plastic float and. the top end a metal plate to engage the electrodes built into the PVC pipe.
Low-voltage wiring is then fed from the activating unit to a Visual/Audio unit mounted in a suitable external position where it can be seen, heard and maintained.
The 'f/A unit comprises a canister holding the light, bleeper and batteries. It is so wired that the flashing light and bleep work in unison with one another.
The circuitry of the bleep can be interrupted by means of a switch built-in so it may be silenced until the cleansing of the drainage system is complete - but must then be re-activated for any subsequent overfill.
This V/A unit when fixed is protected by a hinged plastic toasted wire cage.
:;eekly testing of the V/A unit can be simply carried out by bridging the electrodes on the right-hand side of the canister with any conductive substance suc as a ey, coin or wire.
This will immediately indicate the condition of the batteries together with the 'workability' of the light bulb and bleed.
Quarterly inspection of the activating unit in the Chamber would be sufficient to ensure its efficiency.
All metal party in this unit are non-ferrous.
Cleansing of the chamber unit is carriea out by removing the top and bottom screwed sections and flushing through.
