Abstract
A golf tee has a base (12) which is generally circular and which has an upstanding support member (14) for supporting a golf ball above the base member. The base member has a recess (18) in its base to form a peripheral flange (20) by means of which the tee is supported on the ground. Alternatively the surface contacting part may be in the form of projecting members. <IMAGE>
Description
Title: Golf Tee
The present invention relates to golf tees.
One of the difficulties of playing in extreme weather conditions where the ground is either frozen or dried is the difficulty, and sometimes near impossibility, of pushing a conventional golf tee into the ground in the teeing area. Invariably, the relatively thin and flexible stem of the golf tee is not sufficiently strong to enable the tip of the tee to be forced into the ground, as a result of which the tee deforms and becomes useless.
The present invention seeks to provide an improved golf tee.
Accordingly, the present invention provides a golf tee having a base member and a first support means on said base member for supporting a golf ball above said base member; and wherein the base member has second support means for supporting said tee on the ground.
The present invention is further described here and after, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a preferred form of golf tee according to the present invention; and
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the tee of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings, these show a preferred form of golf tee 10 having a base 12 and a spigot or support member 14 extending upwardly from the base for supporting a golf ball.
As can be seen from the drawing, the base member 12 is of generally circular cross-section, although any suitable crosssectional shape may be used, and has an upper surface 16 which is generally part spherical in shape. This is to allow a correspondingly shaped recess. 18 to be formed in the lower surface of the base. member, leaving a peripheral flange 20 on which the base member 12 and support member 14 are supported on the ground. The provision of the recess enables the tee 10 to be supported in a stable manner on uneven ground, in use. It will be appreciated, however, that the recess 18.need not be of a corresponding shape to the surface 16 and neither need be part spherical. The cross-sectional shape may, for example, be rectangular or ovdl provided that a peripheral flange or its equivalent is provided to allow stable support of the tee 10 on the ground.
Stable support of the tee may, alternatively, be provided, for example, by several legs, typically three, depending from the base member 12.
The support member 14 is preferably cylindrical, stands generally upright on the base member 12 and conveniently has a conical or other shaped recess 22 formed in its uppermost surface to allow a golf ball to be supported on the tee.
The preferred form of golf tee has the advantage that it can be used on ground. which is frozen or dried and into which it is extremely difficult to push conventional tees.
Claims (7)
1. A golf tee having a base member and a first support means on said base member for supporting a golf ball above said base member; and wherein the base member has second support means for supporting said tee on the ground.
2. A golf tee as claimed in claim 1 wherein said support means comprises a plurality of depending lengths on said base means.
3. A golf tee as claimed in claim 1 wherein said support means comprises a peripheral, lower surface of said base means.
4. A golf tee as claimed in claim 3 wherein said peripheral, lower surface is formed on a depending flange of said base means.
5. A golf tee as claimed in claim 4 wherein said base member is of generally arcuate cross section having a correspondingly shaped recess therein to form said depending flange.
6. A golf tee as claimed in claim 5 wherein said base member is generally circular.
7. A golf tee substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
