Abstract

A non-return valve, for air inlets to inflatable structures which are folded flat and stored away when not in use, comprises a flexible flap 1 secured at one end to an apertured base member 4 so as to overlie the aperture. The valve can be manufactured as a separate unit or the base member 4 may be defined by an inflatable structure, when the flap 1 will be secured to the inner face of the structure. The valve can also act as a pressure relief valve. <IMAGE>

Description

NON-REIURN VALVE.
This design relates to a non-return valve the principle of which is similar to existing non-return valves but is constructed as shown in Sections 'A' and 'B' primarily for air inlets to inflatable structures which are folded flat and are stored away when not in use.
The assembly consists of a flap 1. of sufficient strength and flexibility bonded 3. to one side of the air inlet hole 2. so that it forms a seal with the inside face of the inflated structure 4. around the air inlet hole 2. The mating surfaces 5. which form the valve may be coated with silicone gel (or other agent) in order to provide an effective seal and also to prevent mating surfaces from sticking to each other after prolonged storage for instance Section 'A' shows the flap 1. bonded 3. to inflatable structure 4.
Section 'B' shows the flap 1. bonded 3. with profile which will exert a pressure between the mating surf aces.
Section 'C' shows the non-return valve assy. as a separate unit as shown in sect 'C' and Detail 'D' ( TYPICAL PLAN VIEW OF UNIT AND SECTION ).
This unit may also be held captive between flanges when it could be installed into pipework or other plant items to act not only as a non-return valve but as a pressure relief.

CLAIMS.
1. A non - return valve assembly the principle of which is similar to existing non - return valves but is constructed primarily for air inlets in inflatable structures.
2. A non - return valve assembly as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the valve is constructed of thin flat components so that it is suitable for inflatable structures which are reguired to be folded flat and stored away when not in use.
3. A non - return valve assembly as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the assembly consists of a flap of required shape, sufficient strength and flexibility which is bonded to one side of an air inlet hole so that it forms a seal with the inside face of the structure but is constructed in such a manner that the valve opens when the air pressure on the outside of the structure is greater than that on the inside.
4. A non - return valve assembly as claimed in Claim 3 wherein the profile of the flap is such that it will exert a pressure between the mating surfaces.
5. A non - return valve assembly as claimed in Claim 3 or Claim 4 wherein the mating surfaces which form the valve are coated with silicone gel or some other suitable agent in order that a more effective seal is provided.
6. A non - return valve assembly as claimed in Claim 3 or Claim 4 wherein the mating surfaces which form the valve are coated with silicone gel or some other suitable agent in order to prevent them sticking together after prolonged storage.
7. A non - return valve assembly as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the valve is integral with the structure or plant which it serves.
8. A non - return valve assembly as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the valve assembly is manufactured as a separate unit.
9. A non - return valve assembly as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the valve assembly is held captive between flanges when it can be installed into pipework or other plant items.
10. A non - return valve assembly as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the valve can also act also as a pressure relief when the pressure inside the structure becomes greater than that which the flap is able to resist.
11. A non - return valve assembly as described herein with reference to Sections 'A', 'B', 'C' and Detail 'D' of the accompanying drawing.
